There’s nothing like the holidays in New York, if you know what’s what. Luckily, we have a resident expert on staff here at the show.
First up, blogger, author and nightlife promoter Justin Luke suggests something a little different, celebrating the season at Flaming Saddles (left), a gay country-western saloon complete with line-dancing bartenders up on the bar, a la Coyote Ugly. And in Hell’s Kitchen, fairies are flocking to Fairytail Lounge, a brand new watering hole with a kinky Grimm Brothers feel.
For New Year’s Eve, you’ll want to skip the craziness that is Times Square and consider going to Heaven, the city’s only 18-and-over gay dance club or ever-classic Splash, which is hosting porn superstars Brent Corrigan and Brent Everett. You can expect higher-than-normal cover charges everywhere, but the parties will keep going straight through to breakfast.
Need some downtime? See a show. There’s Other Desert Cities, a hilarious, riveting romp with Stockard Channing, Rachel Griffiths, Judith Light and Stacy Keach and Stephen Sondheim’s ode to showgirls, Follies, sadly set to close soon.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Justin has much more, but you’ve got to listen for all the tips and recommendations.
And because it wouldn’t be Christmas without drag queens, we also feature a short chat with three contestants from Season 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Yara Sofia, Alexis Mateo (at right) and Mariah Balenciaga. Your hosts ran into the girls at Arlington, Virginia’s Freddie’s Beach Bar just before they took to the stage for a fierce holiday performance. These chicks hold nothing back!

Gah! Hick stepping, muscle men in their twenties, no disco, but plety of atonal dance music, and porn stars. If these cliches are all NY has to offer, I’ll pass.
