Whoa!
We know the Log Cabin Republicans get a lot of shit from the more liberal lavender set and it probably hurts their feelings, but the group’s reaction resembles that of the far-right.
Echoing language employed by the likes of Focus on the Family, LCR president Patrick Sammon today sent out an email entitled “The Intolerant Left” in which he gripes about all the homos who hate on him and his fellow Republicans.
Writes Sammon:
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
As we enter the election’s homestretch, gay and lesbian Republicans have come under intense fire from the gay community for daring to speak our minds about this campaign. Instead of arguing the merits of their candidate, too many on the left resort to name calling.
Emotion replaces fact. Name calling replaces logic. In this case, those we often hear speaking about tolerance sound awfully intolerant. We need your help today to stand up to the voices of intolerance wherever we find them.
After writing about “the most pro-gay GOP presidential nominee in American history,” John McCain, Sammon goes on to cite criticism from liberal journos like Wayne Besen and Alex Blade, all of which leads up to his desperate, sad plea:
Whatever you can contribute–$25, $50, $100, or more–will help us fight back against the divisive rhetoric from the gay left.
Angry and vicious people on the Left are trying to silence our voices because we dare to speak out as Republicans. Will you be silenced?
“Will you be silenced?” Didn’t Tony Perkins use the same argument when fighting hate crime laws, which the right claims will muzzle anti-gay pastors. Just replace “Republicans” with “Christians” – it’s eerie. Sammon, we implore you, don’t go down that panic-inducing route. It’s not becoming on you.
Read Sammon’s entire letter, after the jump. Be sure to note his post-script, which is perhaps the most disturbing detail of all!
Despite having the most pro-gay GOP presidential nominee in American history, we are attacked from the gay left.
Despite an historic Q&A Sen. McCain did with the Washington Blade, a gay publication, we are attacked from the gay left.
Despite a campaign and a candidate who has reached out and asked for LGBT votes like no other Republican nominee before, we are attacked from the gay left.
Just check out a tiny sampling of the senseless inaccuracies filling the pages of popular, mainstream LGBT blogs and websites:
Gay conservatives “support those who would throw us all in prison.”
– Alex Blaze, Oct. 21st, writing for the popular LGBT website the Bilerico Project
[Log Cabin Republicans’] “suicidal tendency to help a party that despises them is the pink elephant in the room.”
– Popular gay writer Wayne Besen, in a Sept. 19th column for the Huffington Post titled “Log Cabin Republicans Should Disband”
“Gay Republicans? What about Jews for Hitler? or Blacks for the KKK?”
– Typical comment posted to the Advocate.com
It doesn’t stop there. The e-mails we receive usually include the same tired stereotypes about gay and lesbian Republicans. Rarely do we receive a thoughtful analysis or critique of our work.
“It must be so painful to bear that much self-hatred, to be so ashamed of your sexuality that you would willingly sacrifice your rights in order to fit in with that…Republican party.”
“Do you folks ever vote based on anything but your wallets?”
“F___ you a__holes. You make me sick and embarrassed that you are gay. You should be ashamed of yourself.”
Noted gay conservative writer Dale Carpenter said it best: “It’s the worst vitriol against gay conservatives I’ve seen in fifteen years in this movement.”
I don’t have to share more of these mindless rants with you because you’ve probably experienced it yourself. But it’s getting worse by the day and we need your help to stand up to the voices of intolerance.
Whatever you can contribute–$25, $50, $100, or more–will help us fight back against the divisive rhetoric from the gay left.
Angry and vicious people on the Left are trying to silence our voices because we dare to speak out as Republicans. Will you be silenced?
With gratitude,
Patrick J. Sammon

p.s. For a limited time, the first two donors contributing $1,000 or more will receive an autographed copy of one of John McCain’s books. Also, the first five donors contributing $250 – $999 will receive an autographed copy of Meghan McCain‘s children’s book, “My Dad, John McCain,” with the inscription, “Log Cabin Republicans Rock!” Act now!

The GOP is desperate. They’ll say anything to win at this point. It shows just how pathetic and lowdown the self-congratulatory “Party of Lincoln” has become. Perhaps they keep on harping about Lincoln’s accomplishments because they haven’t done anything for America since the 1860s.
In the last week, these clowns have accused Obama of being a terrorist, communist, and murderer (Republican conspiracy theorists are already spinning lies about Grandma).
The Republican brand is now synonymous with dirty politics. They’re a joke. I think a rout / landslide is looking ever more likely. Many are now predicting 250-260 seats for the Democrats in the House, as well as 56-60 seats in the Senate. And the presidency is looking increasingly out of reach for Palin-McCain.
If a tidal wave of change sweeps this nation next week, the lying right-wing fundamentalists might be out of power for a generation.

Ugh. We don’t hate them. We just wish they had some common sense!

Hilarious.
Most pro-gay GOP nominee. Yeah, right.
They can vote for whomever they wish + I can think them silly for doing so.

It’s very sad what the Republican party has become, how it’s definition of “Conservative” has changed over the years. It used to mean little government spending and little government interference in people’s lives. While they were fiscaly conservative, they were socially liberal. Lincoln freed the slaves, and he was the first Republican president.
Thanks to thos “godless commies” during the cold war, the Republicans found Jesus…on the back of a dollar bill in the pocket of the religious right. Now conservative means Old Testament, anti-civil rights religious freak. This also means that they are now creating MORE government interference in the lives of the public. Oh sure they are still for little government spending. But in the end, it’s about greed – keeping your money instead of spending it where it could help yourself and others.
Oh, how far they’ve fallen.
MOney is like manure: Unless it’s being spread around, encouraging growth, it’s just a pile of shit.

I have no interest in attacking GOP LGBT’s. Mostly they make me kinda sad. Please know it is not really the “gay left†that is “trying to silence [y]our voicesâ€. It is your own extremist party members, many of whom would gladly silence all of our voices forever. Live and let love.
CHURCHILL-Y
“Angry and vicious” doesn’t even begin to describe the Obama drones, they will eradicate everything and anyone on their path who disagrees with them. They are prepared to brutalize, destroy and silence anyone who goes against their Obama fanatical worldview, everyone but their political elite an their bureaucrats will suffer.
The ethnic minority that is trying to gain political power is quite prone to this, one only needs to read the comments of creatures like Moesha777 and Blake the schmuck to see their impulses, chanting for “more strict standards” and “terms of service” for people who post here.
If the new DNC headed by thug politicians wins this election everything will be on the table to help them achieve their tyrannical un-American rule. The restitution of the Fairness-Act(which is a totally misleading name for it) is almost assured. We real Americans cannot allow this fraud to be perpetrated on our Nation.
Bill Perdue
LCRs biggest mistake is calling the Democrats ‘leftists’. In spite of their posing the Democrats are not leftists, they’re right wing centrists.
If anything, they’re accomplices, co-conspirators with the Republicans. They both voted overwhelmingly for the war, for NAFTA and for DOMA and DADT and to gut ENDA. Both endlessly pander to bigots. Both supported not only the deregulation that created economic chaos but the theft of trillions to pay of the debts of the corporate rich.
Their only real difference is which set of hustlers and whores will run the government and get the bribes. It’s a gang thing.
Bill Perdue
I don’t think delusional people like CHURCHILL-Y and tallskin should be censored. Instead we should urge passage of laws allowing the civil authorities to compel racists, homophobes and islamophobes to accept psychiatric help coupled with robust monitoring of their meds.
And we need a law that automatically gives racists a long term at forced hard labor with all of their wages and assets being donated to the victims of racist, islamophobic and homophobic violence.
But censorship? No. It doesn’t accomplish anything and sets a bad precedent.
Puddy Katz
I don’t want to live in Bill Perdue’s America. Doesn’t he realize that once that precedent is set that if the religious right gets in control that they can pass laws mandating psychiatric treatment and drugs to turn us into ex-gays, or at least chemically castrate us?
I hope he is being ironic, if not he is a Stalinist to Churchill-Y’s Fascist.
Bill Perdue
Puddy, if you promise not to piss yourself I have some bad news for you. Your whimpering prediction that “if the religious right gets in control… they can pass laws mandating psychiatric treatment and drugs to turn us into ex-gays, or at least chemically castrate us†is not a prediction for the future, it’s old and terrible news for us.
Where have you been Puddy? In a kittie cat coma? Been hitting the catnip too much? The religious right, with the connivance of both parties, have been doing precisely that for decades. They’re doing it now to LGBT youth in their ‘religious reeducation camps. Get a clue, kittie, they have to be stopped and they should be prosecuted for their crimes.
Here’s another news flash, Puddy, both parties pander to the religious right and have done so for decades. The superstitious lunatics have way too much to say about how things are run in this asylum.
Islamophobia, homophobia and racism are crimes perpetrated by the insane. We need legal recognition of that in order to quash it.
That will not be accomplished by kittie cats but by lions.
L
Oh the poor oppressed homosexual fascists! You have a home in Austria, you know. They’d stick a big black swastika up your ass and offer you schnitzel.

I have no problem with Republicans, even gay Republicans, in general, if they are of the more traditional fiscal conservative, socially liberal kind. But most of those are either not voting this year, or are voting for someone other than McCain, with many of them even voting for Obama. Any glbt person who supports McCain right now is beneath contempt, especially those whose racism and bigotry outweigh their sense of self worth.
RCS
The best thing that Log Cabin Republicans could do right now is to go over to the Equality California website at http://www.eqca.org and make a contribution to defeat Proposition 8. Then, they need to loudly tell everyone what they are doing. If Log Cabin Republicans want to be taken seriously, they need to become active and outspoken for full gay and lesbian rights. It they are not willing to do that, they should not be surprised if they receive negative reactions from much of the gay and lesbian population. If they want respect from the mainstream of their community, they need to earn it.
osocubano
I would be happy to let the Log Cabin girls speak their minds… if they had any.
Andrew
It’s amazing to me that so many LGBT peoples have done nothing but invest themselves in either major party. The Republicans don’t need us, the Democrats feel we don’t have any other choice and have really done little to nothing to advance our issues other than in major states. They’re getting a free pass. As a group we need to look into other choices besides what is shoved down our throats. Stop being sheep. LCR are not self hating, Gay Dems are not socialists. We’re a diverse talented group that is being used for our disposable income, organization skills and unified voice.
Marko
Seriously, I have a question for Republicans, in my 22 years of living in NYC I have never seen or met a “fiscally conservative socially liberal” Republican as Alexa describes.
Fact – the Republicans since Reagan have been uniformly horrible for the economy – witness the economic mess we are in now, and who got us there? Republicans? And “socially liberal” um, what? Since Reagan the Republican party has been tethered to the ultra socially conservative religious right, that has fought every sensible fair piece of human rights legislation in the last 20 years. You also have to take into consideration the judges the Republicans appointment.
Seems to me that it is a fallacy, this idea of fiscal conservative, socially liberal – truly I would like for a Republican (or anyone) to illustrate for me, with facts, their supposed record on fiscal responsibility and socially progressive legislation.
Amazing Grace
Churchilly is pitiful! Poor thing–I heard his daddy was a prison bitch and he wasn’t even raped into that position! Sad, very sad. And on top of that, after his daddy returned home, he divorced churchilly’s mother, who was also his sister, and made churchilly his personal ho! Churchilly had to service his own daddy and had to go out and make money by selling his ass for nickels and dimes! Like I said, it is all very sad. Pity him.
M Shane
I would still fuck one of them in the bushes! What do they want?
CitizenGeek
Log Cabin Republicans are pathetic. They’re wealthy, white men who live in New York, Florida, California and the big cities in Texas so they don’t face much – if any – discrimination or intolerance and because of disgustingly greedy, unprincipled and selfish they are, they conveniently forget about everyone else and support a party that despises them. They are absolutely awful.
It is interesting to note that Meghan McCain signed the book and inscribed upon it “LCR rocks!” – it shows that the next generation of Republicans are more or less pro-gay and that, eventually, we will triumph over the selfish and sad men at LCR and the Christian Right.
Bill Perdue
No doubt about it – the LCR are turncoats.
Staying in a party run by bigots makes them bigots because it’s that partisan support, and not their intentions, that’s the objective reality. No one with the brains of a turnip could honestly hope to reform the Republican Party, at least not in this century. The LCR folks ought to be honest and rename themselves the Benedict Arnold Republicans.
But what about ‘GLBT’ Democrats? How do they size up with their BAR-LCR friends across the aisle? Is it fair to condemn them just because the Democratic Party took the mantle of chief bigot away from the Republicans two years ago? And has run with it.
It is after all the party that not only voted overwhelmingly for DOMA and DADT but who’ve refused to repeal them. It is the party of Dianne Feinstein who rounded up a bakers dozen of Democratic Senators to confirm Bush’s racist, homophobic nominee, Leslie Southwick of Mississippi to the Fifth US Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. Just what we need, another racist and homophobe on a Southern court. Thanks, Democrats.
It is the party of bigotry regarding same sex marriage. Obama and Biden have both denounced our right to marriage and that can’t be having a good effect in California, Arizona and Florida. It is the party that ditched the Matthew Shepard hate crimes law and it is the party that embraces Colin Powell, a war criminal who, along with Obama advisor Sam Nunn, authored Clintons’ DADT. It is the party who erased LGBT from its platform on Obama’s instructions.
And it is the party of Barney Frank, the ‘gay’ Congressman who opposed same sex marriage in California and who led the successful Democratic effort to destroy ENDA.
You Dems need a name change too. How about the Barney Frank Democrats, as a reminder that in spite of your smarmy hypocrisy in criticizing your friends in the LCR and your sanctimonious claims to be for equality, you actually oppose it, just as they do. In fact, if not in intent.
polobear
haven’t been on in a while and I see churchie is still screaming, things don’t seem to be going well with all these REPUBLICAN endorsements, Powell, Goldwater etc…
Somebody should go to his house and hide all the sharp objects
and Bill you are right ALL politicians need to clean up their act we need to hold them accountable for their actions I can only speak for myself but I feel I can make more change in the Democratic party. If I thought Ralph Nadar had a chance…….

I agree with Patrick Sammon. To borrow your own demeanor, you guys on The Left are a bunch of assholes.

Welcome back, Polobear!

Funny. You folks on The Right are much more reminiscent of an asshole; you’re too uptight + most of your opinions stink.

No one is silencing gay Republicans. We just don’t like them. Why all the whining? Who has been silenced. There are dozens of blogs, probably more, and a national organization. It hardly sounds like log cabiners are silent.
Mostly I find them amusing. After reading the same bloggers go on and on about how liberals hate America and are traitors and love terrorists, then they complain when we won’t date them. LOL No, I’m not going to date someone who thinks I hate my own country. But what’s obvious is that they have to date liberals because the gay neocons don’t even like to have to associate with each other and wonder why the rest of us don’t want to as well. Really it’s very funny.
crazylove
I think they are confusing 30 years of failed policies with their being silienced. Rather than going meakly into the night, they will bitch and whine about how it’s the demonic liberals who are to blame for their failed policies.
For those of you who are reading this- remember- no conservative is a true conservatism if it is failing or unsucessful. Only people like Reagan, despite his racism and homophobia, is to be looked at as true conservatism. Nevermind, that Bush is the poster child of true Reaganism on the domestic front. Nearly every policy that Bush has, and that McCain has is a product of Reaganism. This election is at base a reputation of that idealogical perspective.
Now, we have all the gay conservatives whining like little bitches because life ain’t fair. Guess what bitches, I could told you that a long time ago. Welcome to the same reality that we liberals have lived in for 30 years. Let me give you a piece of advice- if you want to get something done– do what we did. Role up your damn sleeves. Survive all the slings and arrows for a decade or two, and come back with some new ideas outside of the crap you been selling for the last 30 years. Damn fucking whiners.
crazylove
PS
Having dated Libertarians and conservatives, let me just add ‘No, I will not date you again.” Like Hound, I don’t want to date someone who looks down on me, my ideas or others or lacks basic community values like caring for those around us. I don’t have to be tolerant of the intolerant.
To give some of you a context for my personal feelings over gay conservatives– let me tell you a story about the last conservative I dated. We were discussing healthcare. I mentioned that I supported some form of a government alternative, whether state or federal, in conjunction to any private sector plans as a floor for our healthcare system. His response: “You are saying that because you are a black.” He was a white gay conservative. This is why I no longer have time for them.
greybat
Gee…I would have loved to have sent them a little something…but all my money went to Iraq!
Billy the Id
The bile and bilge uttered by many of the left wing posters at this site just proves that Patrick was right about how intolerant the left really is.
fredo777
If you take such offense to what us “lefties” are saying on a blog mostly catering to our interests, Billy, perhaps you should get lost.
crazylove
Because they need to feel like they’ve been victimized by ‘liberals’, Fredo, to justify their failed idealogy.
It’s like asking communist why did communism fail? The communist would say because real communism was never tried. The same with conservatives. What else do they have left to say? Certainly not, hey- you know what the failed banks or my party’s increasing reliance of theocrats proves you right? We are asking to much of them to take responsibility. This lack of responsibility for their own actions is the conservative movement in a nutshell.
All you have to do is to read Andrew Sullivan as I have over the years to get this mentality: When liberals screw up, it’s our fault. When conservatives screw up, it’s not real conservatism. Only sucess outcomes are real conservatism.
What’s fascinating about it to me is that it both preaches personal responsibility to others, but never really takes any responsibility itself. The buck stops with us libruls.

Churchhill-y wrote: “The restitution of the Fairness-Act(which is a totally misleading name for it) is almost assured.”
I’m pretty sure the supremes would overturn such an act. It’s pretty blatantly unconstitutional. I’m not worried about it.
St. Francis Of-a-sissy
So our gay brother Patrick Sammon asks us to stop the stereotyping. And how do bunch of losers (and winning an election doesn’t NOT make you a loser, your behavior does)? Why, of course, with more viciuos, hateful stereotyping! How nice…
Look, as much as you may not like it, the Log Cabin Republicans are still our gay brothers lesbian sisters, and they deserve our emotional support, if not our political support. Are they wrong? Yeah, I think so. But that’s just my opinion. Are they a bunch of self-hating faggots (and you know you want to use that word, in exactly the same way that Fred Phelps uses it, don’t you?)? Naah. I doubt that they’re any more self-hating than gay folks who lean to the left politically, and believe me, I’ve seen some pretty self-hating gay folks who lean to the left.
Actually, it probably takes more guts to be an out gay Republican than it does to be an out gay Democrat. That’s something that just doesn’t seem possible if you’re full of self-hatred. Frankly, this gay Democrat admires the LGR’s.
Bill Perdue
Give it a rest, crazylove. No more clueless, bullshit claims that you’re a liberal. Yawn.
Liberalism has two traditions and the tradition of Obama and shills like crazylove is in the rancid right wing tradition of Lyndon Johnson and Bill Clinton. crazylove, full of himself, imagines that he’s a real liberal but like Obama, he’s just another tawdry right winger masquerading as a classic liberal.
LGBT Republicans learned the hard way that being associated with rightwing politics in an invitation to contempt from our communities. Supporters of bigots and bigot panderers like Obama, Biden, Barney Frank, Pelosi, Kennedy, Feinstein and Reid et al will begin finding that out the day after the inauguration, assuming that the Bradley Effect has a minor impact on the vote.
But the facts are that Obama and the Democrats oppose socialized medicine and single payer insurance. Obama’s election, because of his open bigotry opposing same sex marriage and equal rights will be a defeat for our movement. His election will mean an escalated attack on the standard of living of working people and on unions. That’s guaranteed by Obama’s support of the grand theft bailouts that by now amount to trillions.
Obama promises to escalate and enlarge the war from Palestine to Pakistan and loudly supports the policy of launching US death squad raids against the sovereign territory of Pakistan, a nations whose military and people are both anti-American government and the owners of a arsenal of nuclear weapons. That’s as criminally dangerous and illegal as anything Clinton or Bush did. Obama supports the criminal embargo against Cuba and shares Bush’s hostility to revolutionary changes in Venezuela and Bolivia. He supports zionist apartheid against Palestinians. And now it seems that Colin Powell will be Obama’s Daddy Warbucks, just as Cheney was for Bush.
Obama’s election will be a blow to civil liberties and civil rights? No it Like Bush he’s a supporter of the death penalty for working people and voted to extend the Paytriot act. Like Bush he gave a pass to the telecom companies (FISA) who were illegally using wiretaps and internet intercepts to monitor groups opposed to the war. crazylove, care to guess why Obama supports illegal wiretaps and if that has anything to do with his plans to escalate the war? No forget it, if you let facts get in the way of your fantasies you’ll just get a headache.
Obama, by virtue of his bigoted opposition to same sex marriage, and the Democrats as a whole will continue to be a major roadblock to our equality just as they have for the last two years.
In a few days the Obama “change†circus will strike it tents and clowns like crazylove can go home. Politics will revert back to a game of bribes and the votes they buy, the war will go on and each day will bring us closer to economic catastrophe. Then the left, which does include a few real liberals, because there aren’t many of them left, can begin to politically tear down the Obama administration brick by brick. And it’ll be a pleasure.
That’s our answer to the question “With Democrats like Obama and shills like crazylove who needs Republicansâ€.
crazylove
Bill– I stopped reading when I saw your name. That’s how much I care about what you think. Have a good life.
Bill Perdue
crazylove. Thanks, I will.
Unlike you the left has a clear plan. It’s based on the principle that ending bigotry, ending the war and ending the attack on our standard of living come before any petty partisan allegiance. We’ll enjoy proving to Democrats and Republicans that their parties are extinct.
By the way, I don’t post to try to convince people who act like lemmings but for those who want to avoid political suicide. You do make a handy foil.
