Being friends with the super-famous doesn’t come without it’s supremely first-world problems. But how bad can it get, exactly?
Well according to Lorde, it’s no walk in the park.
In an interview with The Guardian, the 20-year-old pop star equated the experience to having a friend with a serious autoimmune disease.
Wait, what?
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies,” Lorde said. “There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease.”
Not altogether surprisingly, the analogy didn’t sit well with many online.
One fan brought up the fact that Selena Gomez, another pal of Lorde’s, actually does suffer from the autoimmune disease Lupus.
Awkward.
I wonder how @selenagomez feels about this. What an incredibly ignorant analogy to make @lorde. pic.twitter.com/McbWd058DW

Now Lorde is walking back the odd choice of imagery.
“I f***ed up & that was really insensitive. I’m sorry,” she responded on Twitter.
didn't mention taylor, but regardless, i fucked up & that was really insensitive. i'm sorry ?

Still, there are many who just don’t see what the fuss is about.
Anyone who is familiar with Lorde would knows she's queen of analogies. People need to grow a thicker skin seriously

Whether or not the comparison is overtly offensive, we can all agree its sufficiently bizarre.

Not a fan of Taylor swift. I saw her on the Graham Norton show and she had zero sense of humour

I’m so tired of the fake outrage. If you say “Hi” to people these days they’ll get offended. But I guess that when you have to fill 24/7 media coverage, it will be filled with these vapid stories.

Apparently much of the world has reverted to junior high.

I’m trying to figure out what she said that was the problem.
Being friends with a famous person WOULD mean there are certain things and places you couldn’t do and go. The analogy was correct, if your friend is allergic to Tulips, you’re probably not going to go to a flower show. IF your friend is Taylor Swift, you’re probably not going to go to a teen clothing store in a mall.

More like a venereal disease.

She spoke the truth and shouldn’t be sorry for saying it. Taylor Swift acts like that popular b*tch we all had to deal with in 8th grade, the real life ‘mean girls.’ Someone needs to remind her that she’s a grown-ass woman and should consider growing up and acting like one.
