If the Benham brothers are able to survive and flourish as home building faith filled reality TV stars, the dark curtain will have lifted a bit. The future will look brighter, new possibilities will open up, whether it is on traditional existing media, or whether we begin to fund and create our own networks of communication. For as the Benham brothers have made clear, for them, whether they are on TV or not, matters not so much. For the future of a free, tolerant, and religiously diverse America, it matters a great deal. The contest right now is whether or not the Left and their LGBT allies will successfully redefine mainstream orthodox Christian (or Jewish or Muslim) beliefs as the equivalent of racism. Or whether we will forge a peculiarly American path to a better, more diverse, and tolerant outcome for us all.”
— Right-wing mouthpiece Maggie Gallagher speaking out in favor of the Benham brothers whose antigay views caused their HGTV show to be axed, in an op-ed published in the Bucks County Courier-Times

Do their criticisms matter to anybody under 40?

They all need to read a history book or something.

What else would she think? Her livelihood depends on it.

MagPie talking about tolerance is like a gangster lecturing someone about respect as he pummels you for having dared look him in the eye.

I wonder if these brothers have a homosexual history.

So why doesn’t CBN, 700 Club, or any other “Christian” network pick up the show and put it on the air. Probably because it would be a money losing proposition and you can’t take away any of Pat Robertson’s 70,000,000/yr salary.

@michael mellor:
Um, well I for one think that this may be a spoof. I mean, come on. If we just took that picture and placed “The Benham Brothers” in bold red at the bottom, I am sure that most of us would think of it as a recent porn production. I mean seriously, how many of us have seen porn filmed in that very barn behind them.
As for these two overgrown twinks, I wish that their minds would have filled out as well as “selfie” faces, but looks like even God didn’t want to fix that mistake.
Sometimes, I really do wish that there were an elite task force, a mafia if you will, to just clean these things up. You know, have drag queens debate them at public events, have their sponsors outed, have their messages decried by the majority of the public that is increasingly seeing Marriage Equality, and the rights of Gay Parents, as well as seeing LGBT Americans as part of our society and growing to not only accept but appreciate us, these two are relegated to the idiots that are increasingly losing an audiance.
I can only expect that they are either going to clean up their images and run for the GOP, or only scream louder and in a more deafening tone of crazy. Either way, they’re not gonna stop us now.

The idea that “mainstream” can be used to describe “orthodox” literally makes no sense.

Maggie said…. “the Left and their LGBT allies will successfully redefine mainstream orthodox Christian (or Jewish or Muslim) beliefs as the equivalent of racism. ”

She can’t even get her lies right about religion. “Mainstream” Jewish Beliefs are in favor of gay marriage. Both the Reform and Conservative branches of Judaism which make up about 96% of all Jews in America not only perform gay weddings but ordain gay rabbis.
How sad that Maggie has to try to lie about religion in order to support her basic point. Which is, at it’s core, religion is all about hate and bigotry and all of them are the same.
Oh and lastly, because you’ve always got to do it with Haggie…
Hey Mags, you claim to support traditional marriage, so
1. Why do you not wear a wedding ring as is traditional?
2. Why did you not take your husbands last name as is traditional?
3. Why are you and your husband never seen together and why does he spend all his time traveling with his “Friend”?

Dear Maggie G
As a German woman I want to say THANK YOU! United States of America for your Fight to free us from Hitler and to bring back Democracy in my Country.I just have a question:
In your Constitution I could not find the Article or a Amendment which says “Duty of Religion”. I understand your Dream of a future with a religiously diverse America and your constitution gives all people in the USA “the Freedom of Religion”.But you live in a Democracy. You have to accept Diversity outside of religious Belives. You have to accept other peoples “Life Style”.That is your citizen’s Duty. Or are you tired of Democracy and are you try to create a theocratical State now?
I would be very pleased to receive your answer.
Sincere regards,

@michael mellor: A friend of my cousin’s landlord said he knew someone who went to school with them and the word then was they were definitely gay.
Throbert McGee
@toberlin: I can’t answer directly for Maggie G., but I do have some thoughts — namely that respect for diversity is a two-way street, and some of today’s LGBT advocates in America are basically “soft Stalinists”, and every bit as fundamentalist and ultra-orthodox as the “Religious Right.”
But more later… I have to log off soon.

Are the two Benham goobers married, I mean, to women? Mmmm, I can definately imagine some teen curiosity and “experimentation” by these two out in the barn, and the ensuing guilt. Maybe they were caught, whipped in the woodshed, and threatened with lotsa hell-fire and dambation? You reckon?

Let’s just stop giving these guys any attention. Oddly, I’m not against them, but I just don’t think they really understand what they’re claiming about the “homosexual agenda”. And now that term is spreading like wildfire and it’s so misunderstood.
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
Maggot, hows ’bout you give up your tired old act??
Despite marrying Marcus, it seems you never got the memo that morbidly obese, unattractive females are supposed to be the Gays BFs!!!!!

Hey McGee:
Love and Respect and Tolerance and Acceptance are different Things.I love my Friends & Family and I respect Democracy and I tolerate or accept other Peoples “Life Style”.
And there is a difference between ETHIC and MORAL.I have also conservative and religious People whom I love in my Life .And they think in a ethical way too and not just in a moral/religious way.I can’t expect Love or Respect from every Person but Acceptance or Tolerance in a Democracy.
toberlin
So I think being RELIGIOUS is a Choice/”Life Style” not so being GAY( it is like being straight :your natural sexual Orientation). But it is hopless to argue with People like Maggie Gallagher/Pat Roberson about that Point. They will never get this. And in a Democacy I have to live with them. All I can do is to tell they have to tolerate/accept People with other “Live Styles” in a Democracy whether they like it or not.Like I have to accept /tolerate religiously thinking People whether I like it or not. This does not mean I love or respect them .Like they don’t love or respect me.

…”LIFE STYLE”..(it is such a stupid word in my book anyway that I write it wrong again and again)

@Cam: Yes you are very right. I read what you rote and I find out that it is a lot easier to be HOMO in Israel, then in the USA, but the USA is not the best example for democracy.
