SOUNDBITES — “I’m not into the celebrity thing . . . like we used to. That’s boring . . . We’re not going to have celebrities. Last season, we had two celebrities . . . one because Lady Gaga was doing our party, and she didn’t even make it to her seat because we started the show be fore she got there. And one was Madonna. She came backstage, and I was like, ‘What do you do with her now?’ Because it’s not like she was invited. She just called and said she was coming, and we weren’t holding the show for her. She just came, and that was it. There are certain things I can’t control. We used to have all the celebrities and people there, and I think that at that moment in time, that’s what people loved. It generated so much press and at a certain point it was like, ‘Did anybody actually watch the show?'” —Fashion designer Marc Jacobs on why slaving over celebrities is so two-thousand-late (via)

“I was like, ‘What do you do with her now?’ Because it’s not like she was invited. She just called and said she was coming…”
OUCH !
DEREK WASHINGTON
Uh, is he mad? I can’t believe he would actually be quoted saying that. Not a good move to burn that bridge.

Speaking of 2000-late, look at his tattoos.

Now i’m intrigued. Who is this ‘Madonna’ celebrity? I don’t remember her. My roomate says she was the trollip that photographed with Vanilla Ice…?
onCloud9
who are these people?
benlayvey
Poor Madge, she handed over the “Gay Icon” torch to Lady Gaga the moment she asked the “Fame Monster”, “What is this disco stick you talk about?” on SNL.
SouLKid
Lady GaGa is a gay icon?
wow. urmmm…oh–kay.
Drew
@soulkid
Yeah, I think she is. She just “fits in”.

I’m sure that quote was taken way out of context, especially since it’s coming from the Post, and the always unreliable Queerty.
Madonna was the face of the spring and fall campaigns for Louis Vuitton, which were hugely successful, so he obviously figured out something to do with her.
HiredGoons
Wow. Something that actually make me like Marc Jacobs.
alan brickman
he has a gay marriage and dosen’t want gay icons around? what is that shit?…
Mike
Once again a BS article cited by the bitter queens at Queerty that have nothing to do but HATE on Madonna time and time again. When are you going to realize that Madge has done more for the gay community then you fuckers could do in 1000 years? Get over yourselves asap. And wasn’t Madge the fact of Louis Vuitton for like 2 years and Marc Jacobs said nothing but good things about her. Get your facts straight idiots.

RE: benlayvey
you have to be kidding man, If GaGa lasts 10 years she’ll be a huge success. Madge is a once in a lifetime artist, she’ll never be replaced and young naive gays like you wont ever change that.

People still like Madonna? And can someone statistically and factually list exactly what Madonna has done for the gay (self hating!) community? And show evidence of cause and effect please. Because unfunnily, us in Europe seem to be the only area that is progressing in terms of gay rights. Middle America pack Madonna concerts but hate gays. Ironic no?

Lemme give you some advice Madonna loving American gays, Prop 8 wasn’t just about California but gay rights as you can see. Maybe your ‘gay icons’ should actually be people who visibly speak out in favor of you, donated to no on prop 8 and went on the march.

Madonna did all that you ask. She spoke out AND she donated against Prop 8. Research your statements before making lame ass attacks. Madonna has done more for gay rights than any other celebrity.
Sam
@Jason: I call bullshit. How do you know she donated? Where’s the evidence? And as for speaking out, it’s well documented that she didn’t say ANYTHING until AFTER Prop 8 was passed. And I’d say Ellen DeGeneres, Rosie O’Donnell & the cast of Will & Grace all did more for gay rights than Madonna.
Not a Madonna hater by any means, but I hate when people post bullshit to back up their claims. She’s done great, valuable work, and we should admire her for it, but most of it was actually fighting AIDS, back when it was not trendy to do so, not pushing gay rights.
Sam
@A now confused John from England: Madonna was a very early AIDS activist, hosting fundraisers in the mid-80’s when there was still a HUGE stigma and no real treatments. And she’s never abandoned the cause. For that, we should be thankful.

Marc Jacobs did not say this- his business partner Robert Duffy did, in an interview at style.com Page Six got it wrong, and other sites repeated this mistake.
And Duffy wasn’t dissing madge, he was just saying what chaos ensues when a big star like that invites herself backstage where it’s already chaotic.

The quote is halfway down the page.

As far as Madonna speaking out on behalf of gays, I heard otherwise. Her brother Christopher stated that that her ex, Guy Ritchie, used homophobic slurs and told anti gay jokes for years. And Madonna stoodby, said and did nothing!
