Marky Mark was Calvin Klein’s “Nick Gruber” 20 years before Nick.
Mark was Calvin’s toy for a good 5 years and the money and connections allowed Mark to launch his career. It’s amazing that a straight guy will be gay for pay to get what he wants. Mark would have probably been a Sean Cody model if the site existed at that time.

@Captain Obvious: Aren’t you sort of ignoring (or just not taking into account) that “white” people aren’t all one entity. There are the “right” kind of whites, and the “wrong” ones (to other whites), and a lot of inter-ethnicity hostility. Marky Mark/Mark Wahlberg has always basically been hated by gay whites. I know you have a hangup about white racism (which is perfectly fine, if you want..) but at least recognize it’s not as simple as you’re presenting it.

It’s like everything else…sex sells. It sells now. It sold then. He got his Calvin contract. He dropped his drawers at concerts and made tons of cash. He had zero talent as a singer. An asshole in his personal life. He spent lots of time in the gym and had a fast metabolism = lean, hard body that lots of people (women and gay men loved). Unfortunately lots (not all) gay men think with the little heads and forget about the hate crimes and his homophobic rants when they sang his praises and bought his video (and played the videos in gay bars).
So, no I don’t think it’s about people worshipping him just because he’s white…

Most “gays” don’t know about the assault that happened when he was 15 (between him and the two African American kids). That got him put on a court order for no assaultive behavior and no intimidation (which he subsequently disobeyed) when he attacked the Asian guys (when he was 16)…The story that most gay men (and others) heard about. He was found guilty of the assault in that case and contempt of court for not following the court order on the previous crimes when he was 15.
Being straight doesn’t mean a thing. He was loved by many in the gay community. Much of his past was ignored. Many people loved that ass, tight body, and white boxer-briefs with the bulge. Many were thinking with their little heads. Captain Obvious is right. He was adored in the community…by many (I’d say a majority), judging by his fan base, book and video sale demographics.
