The prospects of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act look grim, that is to say, they look like they’ve always looked. Bi-partiasn support is basically a dream at this point since the Republicans are determined to be a nightmare.
With the GOP struggling to rebrand itself as not a bunch of openly racist, homophobic misogynists raging against the machine of change and progress, Marco Rubio’s distinctly Latino name has been bandied about to lead the Republicans into its next phase. But Rubio’s got the old GOP song and dance down pat.
ThinkProgress caught up with the Florida Senator and got his uninformed opinion on ENDA:
TP: The Senate this summer is going to be taking up the Employment Non-Discrimination Act which makes it illegal to fire someone for being gay. Do you know if you’ll be supporting that?
MR: I haven’t read the legislation. By and large I think all Americans should be protected but I’m not for any special protections based on orientation.
TP: What about on race or gender?
MR: Well that’s established law.
TP: But not for sexual orientation?
The silence speaks volumes, as do Rubio’s claims that he’s been improperly labeled a bigot. Well, if the shoe fits and Rubio’s gonna need some sole if he’s going to tap his way ahead of the pack vying for GOP leadership. He’ll of course be dancing all over ENDA’s grave.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

So Marco, I guess that means I could fire you for being straight then, since I’m gay and own the business.
Polaro
I suggest we take back the protections for Latinos. They don’t need them anymore.

complete ass.

@Polaro: Funnily enough, I do see the race politique as a legitimate tactic. If those of other ethnic groups wish to further discrimination than they too must accept roll backs in the law.

I like how RepubliCONS hold our their 2 “Latinos” (Rubio & even worse jackass, Ted Cruz) as examples of their “diversity,” yet those 2 d-bags are both half white.

Mr Rubio , please stay with that special thinking, I love it, and you too will be
on the trash bin of also ran’s for president.
The republicans will again stand of the sidelines and bitch at the Dems, and be
hardasses in congress and get nothing done.
Go Rubio, the future looks bright.

Marco Rubio is AGAINST giving GAY AMERICAN CITIZENS their Civil Rights but wants to give a general amnesty to TENS of MILLIONS of non-US citizens living in the US illegally. What a clueless dirtbag.

What would you expect from the liar who made up the story of his family fleeing from Castro …they were here way before Castro

The democrats’ idol Barry(Obama) is okay with gays'(and everyone’s) standard of living dropping and our losing some of our freedoms under the Constitution as he grows the size and cost of Big Government. Can’t intelligent gays realize that the democrat party is being hijacked by the Progressives? Sadly, we don’t have the Democrat Party of JFK and Truman.
Kangol
@manjoguy:
The “Democrat Party” never existed, except in Joseph McCarthy’s and the GOP’s heads.
Keep supporting the GOP, which actively oppresses you, socially, politically and yes, economically.
The rest of us will support politicians, including Barack Obama, who are not actively trying to make us second-class citizens (or non-citizens).

@Kangol: Clearly Rubio is an idiot and the GOP is terrible with social issues (because of the religious base of the party) but that doesn’t mean we should ignore all other issues.
The President is a hypocrite on this issue and cannot be trusted, he was just a few years ago talking about how he was absolutely 100% AGAINST gay marriage because his religious beliefs.
And since you bring up Joe McCarthy, you should check out the declassified KGB papers from the cold war. Look for the words ‘Venona’.
