Mariah Carey shocked and nauseated the world with Glitter, the singer’s simply atrocious 2001 big screen flop.
While one would think the 38-year would be inclined to stay away from the movie business, Ms. Carey’s picked herself up and thrown herself back into acting. And apparently she doesn’t suck:
The Grammy winner put away her lip gloss to play the battered wife of a state trooper in “Tennessee,” which won raves at the Tribeca Film Festival. Director Lee Daniels was so impressed with her grit that he’s cast her in “Push,” in which she plays a Harlem social worker ministering to an obese, HIV-positive woman impregnated twice by her father.
Carey’s also reportedly working on a musical set to her Christmas album. The story will revolve around an evil developer looking to build a mall in a small town. Sounds perfect.

Aw, christ…why won’t this woman relegate herself to the past?

I heard “Glitter†was really a remake of “Imitation of Life†with MC playing all the parts. Her next movie was supposed to be her staring in a remake of “All About Eve†again with MC playing all the parts.

Oh shut up, all of you … I love her and always will. GLITTER came out on 9/11 — it never had a chance!

A while back my roommate and I finally watched Glitter expecting a gigantic trainwreck and the seeds of her subsequent breakdown. They weren’t there, really. It was just a mediocre, by-the-book “girl of humble origins makes it big” movie.
It was also set in the 80s before that had totally come back. Had it been truly awful it would probably be a camp classic by now.

Not a Mariah Carey fan myself, but I love love love glitter. I love the formula and the melodramatic bad acting. Really. It’s craptastic eye candy.
