Theres a sort of soap-opera quality to marriage equality right now: surprise weddings just keep popping up where you least expect them.
A few weeks ago, it was Pennsylvania where a clerk decided that the state’s marriage ban was unconstitutional. And now New Mexico’s going even further: not only has a clerk there started issuing licenses, but a judge has ordered Santa Fe county to start ringing the marriage bells as well.
Meanwhile, the ACLU and NCLR are teaming up to file an emergency request on behalf of a woman dying of cancer; and the New Mexico Supreme Court ruled that gays and lesbians are covered by the state’s nondiscrimination laws. Busy times in the Land of Enchantment!
