The 2020 hopeful just launched his #PrideForPete campaign fashion and accessory line, which includes rainbow V-necks, tanks, temporary tattoos, backpacks, Pride signs, bumper stickers, buttons, and everything else you might need to have a Buttigieg-tastic Pride season.

Get those orders in quick, though, because the website says it can take 3-4 weeks (!) for items to ship, which means you may not receive your Mayor Pete Pride pack until halfway through Pride season!

also, he actually DID have a feature up on his website as of a few weeks ago where you could search any topic keyword and find videos of him talking about said topics. not sure why it got taken down…but i imagine it’ll be back soon (like when the summer debates start next month)

His use of the fake, racialized Pride colors is not accidental. Note that he doesn’t offer any merch which uses the actual Pride rainbow; every item is the racialized version. He is trying to counter the allegation that he appeals to white Democrats and independents, but is not getting traction among Black voters. Selling merch with the racialized colors is perceived as a cost-free way of linking him with Black activism, inasmuch as it was Black activists who invented the fake, racialized Pride flag 2 years ago.
It’s an ugly act of disrespect for the actual Pride flag, whose colors do not represent any race or skin color, but which represent concepts and things, such as spirit and nature.

To clarify, this nonsense won’t stop me from promoting his campaign as, regardless of his chances of getting anywhere on the ticket, it’s vital that we support his high visibility; for both emerging gay kids and Middle America needs to see such a candidate, and, even more importantly, couple. But it does grate that the “Vogue on the outside / vague on the inside” Baby Revolutionaries he’s listening to didn’t stop to think, “Uh, why are there no black and brown stripes on the trans flag? Etc., etc.

Agree it’s a positive thing for gay kids to see a gay candidate – on the other hand, it’s a shame he’s stooped to the same sort of pandering as most of the Dem wannabes. The all act like Carville’s law has been repealed, and it hasn’t been.

Adding the black & brown stripes literally looks like scat fetish. I’m a white guy fully in support civil rights for all people of all colors and orientation and identity, but this is simply a poor design choice.
