Meet the 2010 Repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, Arriving in the Senate on Wednesday

The ragtag team of Sens. Joe Lieberman, Carl Levin, Mark Udall, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Roland Burris will this morning introduce the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, which will repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, prohibit military discrimination based on sexuality, and, according to a release, “promote the establishment of Reserve Officer Training Corps units at elite colleges and universities.” Nice. There will be a press conference at 11:45am EST, and that should do it for two thousand ten.

The move comes on the heels of Tuesday’s letter, from Defense Secretary Robert Gates, to the four branch heads of the military, declaring the Pentagon’s DADT review study “can only be successful if it is managed in a way that minimizes disruption to a force engaged in combat operations.”

I just love the way they name these things.

      “Military Readiness Enhancement Act”

I suppose it will enhance readiness. Discharging a soldier with specialized training and needed skills could only reduce readiness. So refraining from said discharge would, by comparison, improve readiness.

If you don’t read the bill, it almost seems like something the right-wingers would support. I suppose that is intentional — A vote against it would not look good to conservative constituents who only read the title.

Someone will immediately dub it the “MRE Act”.

They could have called it MERA and used the DC Comics’ character as a mascot…Aquaman’s wife is a warrior, she went toe-to-toe with Wonder Woman recently, perfect for showing military effectiveness! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mera_(comics)

Let the soldiers speak! It’s not like they’re giving away secrets about Roswell:

      Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

Why do discharges have to continue? Every week they are still dumping veterans on the street? Why can’t the Democratic Party stop that? I am sure they have a pussy answer. Worthless.

This is OBAMAS Plan. He knew it would be studied until after the mid-terms. He’s a lot smarter than us.

Um…not really since everybody has been predicting that if there was any movement at all on DADT they would pull something exactly like this.

@Cam: That’s funny Cam. You think Obama didn’t know DADT was going to be studied until after the mid-terms? You must also think he isn’t aware that there aren’t enough votes in the Congress to repeal DADT?

I’m curious, what DOES Obama know? You seem to think he’s “out of the Loop.”
