NFL draft hopeful Michael Sam hasn’t even been chosen to officially join the NFL yet, but that hasn’t stopped him from trying to rake in the pro athlete dough. This week, he signs his first major endorsement deal with Visa, the second profitable business move he’s made since coming out in early February.
In his first official spot for the brand, Sam is seen pumping iron and encouraging the viewer to “remember him” for his work on the field, not his sexuality.
“We felt that Michael’s story was a perfect fit for our ‘everywhere’ campaign, which is meant to inspire people to reach their own personal goals and aspirations,” Visa’s chief marketing officer Kevin Burke told ESPN. “We wish Michael the best on and off the field as he embarks on the next chapter of his life.”
ABC News reports that despite being a late-round candidate for the draft, Sam has received more endorsement deals than any other NFL hopeful in history. Visa, the exclusive payment services sponsor of the NFL for the last 20 years, will most likely not be the first company he’ll represent.

Despite his healthy self esteem, I believe he can only thrive so much without being affected by the hate and subtle homophobia from team mates and coaching staff. This may indeed have an impact on his level of play/performance.
Hopefully, he’ll surprise us all.
