Miley Cyrus recently took some time out of her busy schedule of sticking out her tongue and twerking to visit the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Youth Center and to meet with Center CEO Lorri L. Jean and the homeless LGBT youth served by the Center.
And we’ve got to tip our hats to Miley on this one. For someone who’s constructed a musical empire on the image of I’m a Millennial and I don’t care, she does seem to care. That’s more than we can say about most pop stars.
Following the tour, she joined a session of the Center’s Street Smart program — a facilitated discussion group that helps and encourages homeless LGBT youth to develop safer sex practices.
“I was quite impressed by Miley and by her genuine passion to help homeless youth,” said Center CEO Lorri L. Jean, “as well as her concern for the growing HIV infection rate among gay and bisexual young people. It’s a huge concern here in Los Angeles where 87% of those living with HIV are gay or bisexual males and a staggering 40% of homeless youth are LGBT. I’m grateful for the attention she’s bringing to the issue and look forward to working with her.”

In April of last year, Miley caused a bit of a stir when she sent a homeless youth up on stage to accept her Video of the Year VMA for “Wrecking Ball.”

Well, it’s nice to see a celebrity give a Damn about social issues.Most of them are self obsessed morons who couldn’t care less about things like LGBT homelessness,Gay rights, or women’s rights.Celebrities have a platform to be a huge influental voice.While they’re counting their millions, they can at least take the time to do some good deeds.

I think Miley is a mess which sums up Millenials nicely – narcissistic, nihilistic but not intentionally nasty.
Good on her for the charity efforts.
Looking at those pics of her, she looks fragile – skinny bag of bones and deathly pale.
After those drug pics she posted, its only a matter of time before the Mexican house cleaner finds her dead on the sofa after sliding into a coma the previous night.
That or either she checks into the Betty Ford Clinic.

@heavylifter: That’s a very cynical way to view my generation. We’re only coping with the world your generation left us with. Your comments on Miley’s appearance was largely unnecessary and frankly unfair. While I may not be a huge Miley Cyrus fan, I will defend her from people who seek to needlessly attack her while she’s doing a good deed for the lgbt community.

@Tookietookie123: Miley is past the age where it’s acceptable to blame your parents so to speak. At this point in time she’s an adult so any mess she makes or nasty behavior is on her.
This is a good step forward, hopefully she stops with the stripping, and drug promotion.
Young people are making a choice to be this way. My generation(I started high school in 98 so I’m not exactly in a different generation) was full of the beginning of this overboard nasty behavior and guess what… I didn’t join in. Be your own person.
No one can make you choose to be a narcissist, shallow, or vapid. You have to choose that for yourself.

It was pleasantly surprising to see this young one so casually dressed and helping others. I disagree with heavylifter’s comment that she looked unhealthy. Good for her for growing up and outside herself.
