But one must assume little girls (and gay boys) are watching the broadcast at home, so when you hear Miss California Carrie Prejean — from the state where Prop 8 passed! — announce her support for defining marriage as between one man and one woman, and then the studio audience cheering (or was it booing?) her response, well, you’ve got to hope these kids had switched over to a Toddlers & Tiaras marathon and missed the bigoted response. Because karma is a bitch and sometimes the universe gets things right, Miss California lost … and came in second place; Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton won. I have a problem with all of these comments. Here is a young lady who did not waiver from what she stands for, yet she is critisized for not giving the “right” answer. She lost the pageant not because of her views but because of her inability to gracefully answer the question not only did she stumble over her words and lose her composure (which a Miss USA should never do) if you go back and watch she never actually answered the question. People have a right to their opinion but if you are auditioning for a job as a spokesperson you should be able to speak flawlessly which she simply can’t.

@getreal: Actually, that passage in Leviticus was written to prohibit Jewish temple priests from having sex with male temple prostitutes, which were common during that time. It’s not a blanket condemnation against homosexuality, especially since the prohibition doesn’t speak about woman/woman sex.
And funny enough, 2 books back in Genesis, polygamy, incest, murder, cheating, stealing, slavery and attempted burning of women were all practiced by the patriarchs who were favored by God. So, where’s the literalism when it comes to conservatives who claim to “follow Scripture”?
Also…I know this really burns the conservatives: but, seriously, the Bible was written by MEN. They were writing about their relationship with God and understanding God. It was NOT written by God. Same sex marriage is wrong, wrong, WRONG! what is so right about it? It’s even biologically wrong. I know i am focusing on homosexuals here but, you guys are right there are many other sins. I am not here to judge anyone. I just which you would understand, not because i want to be right, just read the bible. To end this argument, find me in the bible where it says homosexuality is ok, and i will support gay marriage. Guys, WAKE UP!!! God destroyed Sodomy and Gomorrah because of many of their sins, including homosexuality. Go back and read it. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT OUR LAWS SAY, A SIN IS STILL A SIN. Understand that. This world is condemned. This world is done. Very very soon everyone will have to confess that Jesus is the Son of God. It’s inevitable. Christians go and condemn people that don’t believe what they believe and are so quick to say everyone else is wrong in the name of gods love. Furthermore, it has been proven that people who believe in god wholeheartedly without questioning the world around them are significantly dumber than those around them that actually accept that the world is different than what is written in the bible…
Also, when is the last time tongues of fire descended from the sky and allowed people to all speak the same language at the same time? When was the last time anyone was struck down by god for sinning? How about the other people on this earth that follow different religions, who have different gods than your own, whose main commandment is thou shall not have any gods before me?
Also, marriage has been around for thousands of years, and it predates Christianity. Christianity adopted many pagan rituals. Christmas? It was a pagan holiday, orgies would occur on those days and men would give presents to each other. Easter? The bunny is a pagan fertility symbol that would be worshipped around that time. Christianity has modified itself to fit other peoples beliefs while excluding those who can’t fully accept it.
Christianity is a popular religion because it can include you and exclude you in a second, it’s the largest group of “Mean Girls” on the planet and the Pope is Regina George.
I suggest you educate yourself and learn more theology because all your theology hasn’t taught you shit about your own religion.

Gay marriage will decrease the population and lower childbirth raters. This will destroy the US govt because there will be less children and future generations to pay taxes such as social security benefits for their parents, especially if gay widows are allowed to collect the benefits of their husbands. There will not be enough money to cover everybody in social security. Straight couples have less money saved because they have had to pay for their kids, which are really really expensive. Gay couples choose not to have kids and while that is a lifestyle choice, and even a choice for some straight couples, it will hurt the sustainability of the govt. Marriage licenses and marriage benefits should not be extended to couples unwilling to support the financial stability of the govt for future generations. Its selfish to try to get marriage benefits without having children. Having children is the greatest sacrifice and expenditure of a person’s life. Every biological parent or legal guardian is financially responsible for the well-being of that child. If you’re not going to have children and take advantage of govt benefits then you’re just looking for a handout.

No one is saying she does not have a right to her beliefs this is America we all have a right to her beliefs. What she does not have a right to do is force other Americans to live her beliefs.
