A new Public Policy Institute of California survey finds some 50 percent of Californians support marriage equality, with 45 percent opposed — the first time a poll in the state found a majority supporting The Homosexual Marriage. The National Organization for Marriage will twist this data, with a statement about how Californians are stupid.
survey says
More Californians Willing to Not Be Dicks About Gay Marriage Than Ever Before

We just need very old people to die. It would solve many problems including their bloc bigotry voting, their parasitic presence on our economy, and dangerous driving conditions. These #s are pretty good, and bound to get better and better once the old fucks drop.
Rainfish
@Fitz: I hope you meant old “anti-gay” fucks, because I’m not ready to go yet.
Mr. Enemabag Jones
They’re just telling pollsters what they think they want to hear, to appear socially liberal. When the next vote comes, in the safety of the voting booth, they’ll vote to take away our equality again. Nobody wants to admit they’re a bigot.
Chance
Sadly, Mr. EB J, we may still have their support at the vote, they just won’t bother to show up to the polls and make their support officially known. A la Maine. We haven’t figured out how to make our equality a priority for our friends.
Fitz
@Rainfish: yes. I am an old fuck too. As a group, however, most of my cohorts are assholes and need to go.
Forrest
Yeah and the much lauded field poll had us defeating prop 8. Wtf Evah

No. 6 · Forrest wrote, “Yeah and the much lauded field poll had us defeating prop 8.” … there was nothing wrong with the Field poll – the electorate’s average opinion was changing with time due to the advertising barrage, and you need to allow for the poll’s margin of error (which most of the public seems to ignore when they talk about a poll).
The current poll, by the way, showed 50% in favor of same-sex marriage but with an error of 2%. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

I am 44, and most people my age are so sadly deluded about many things, they are the “Reagan Generation”, and yes they suck. Thoroughly reactionary and growing more “conservative” by the minute seems to be the fate of people who choose to live in this ‘burb during the onset of middle age. I need to get out of here, and move to SF, jeez.

No offense to the oldsters here (you’re all golden to me!!) but we really the rest of ’em to fcuk off and die……(literally!)
Poll after poll shows that the acceptance of all things rainbow hued is increases dramatically as the age of respondants decreases……..
Am fairly certain that Maggot is gonna gag on her triple whopper when she hears of the results of this poll……….
Hyhybt
@B: Yes, but even the far end of that 2% would put 48% in favor and 47% against. Too close for comfort, but still in our favor.
Sol Invictus
What a bunch of losers, whiners and hypocrites hoping the older generation dies off so same sex marriage will be accepted.
You people are stupid. Terminally stupid. Young people have a habit of becoming much more conservative as they age. How do you think older people got that way? Or are all of you too stupid to realize the older people were once young and rebellious, most seniors now were protesters during Vietnam.
Here is a reality check morons. No matter who dies off and when the population has shifted to Hispanics becoming nearly the majority in a few years. And by hugely overwhelming margins they are Catholic and anti same sex marriage.
And remember the pro gay side dies off too. And who replaces them? The anti gay Catholic Hispanics.
The IQ level in this comment thread combined, would not power a light bulb.

45 to 50 is still too close to know what is going on, they might just gotten lucky and asked the right people… what will happen at the poll is still not certain

@Fitz:
Sad, but true.
Even though I’m still on the Southside of sixty, you know in the Gay World that qualifies as very, very, very old. Hell, I think many of us still use the “dog years” formula, or something similar, to rate each other’s age and eligibility status.
I think Gay life chronology may actually suffer from a case of arrested development. Gay men usually don’t achieve the beginning level of emotional adolescence until they are well into their twenties (many being deprived of the usual dating and courtship experiences of those formative high school years), and then, tragically, some quickly slide into old age and obscurity in their forties. I came out when I was seventeen and I’m glad of it. I believe that prepared me to be more successful in my willingness to become involved in a long-term relationship early on without the need to come out onto the scene with guns ablazing in my twenties.
The thirties seems to be the last ditch decade to pair-up, if it is ever going to happen for many. True, this may not be the same scenario for some, but for others it is too often the case. Actual age-related ineligibility may appear on a sliding scale in the Gay community based on many other facts…social status, education, intelligence, talent, wealth, personality, looks, physical health, libido, etc. and these may actually offset the dreaded over-the-hill at forty syndrome for a while. Of course, these are only observable patterns and trends, and not fixed prescription for relationship success. Still, I’m glad I met my partner when I was an emotionally flexible twenty-three year old and not a jaded, cynical, forty-five year old not willing to compromise — as too often is the case.
But, I digress….so getting back to the topic, hell yes, the majority of old heteros are our worst enemies…mmmmmmm, kinda of like the majority of heteros in general are our worst enemies….oh, and hetero teenagers are the worst enemies of our GLBT teenagers. But then there is that narrow little window of 21yrs old to 30yrs old where most college educated heteros are our symbolic friends (we, the GLBT community, ranking somewhere below the Save the Whale campaign on their righteous list of social causes)…then, they get married…eventually grow more conservative as they start to hate their lives…and then they start to vote Republican and become our enemies again.
The cycle repeats as they spit out more of their progeny into this heterocentric over-crowd world which we homos make a more beautiful and more interesting place for their undeserving ilk.
And Life goes on.

@Sol Invictus: Show us polls from 1970, then, showing today’s 65+ crowd to have been pro-gay when they were young.
jeffree
@Hyhybt: Hi! in case U get confused: Sacramento is the capital of California.
Age Cohort refers to people born @ roughly the same time. So looking @ attitudes of people who are 25 NOW isn’t the SAME as looking @ people who were 25 fifteen years ago! This means that peoples attitudes are MORE a FUNCTION of WHEN they were a born MORE than
how old they are, although that matters too!!!!
Hyhybt
@jeffree: I know this; in fact, that’s pretty much the point I was making. By the way, 1970 is FORTY years ago, not fifteen.
