More Fun With Shirley Phelps-Roper

The Mistress of the Westboro “God Hates Fags” Baptist Church has not been deterred by her run-in with Fox News siren Julie Banderas, and she has taken her fight to the Southern Baptist Convention, where she rips into a pastor who has the patience of Job (and a really long battery in his video camera), telling him how the Convention is a whorehouse and a leper colony that worships the idol of the U.S. flag, where the red represents the rectal blood of fags. Yep.

We love being defended by Southern Baptists perhaps even more than Fox News anchors. Shirley Phelps-Roper is really doing the gay community a huge favor by making centrists out of even the most socially conservative people in the nation. She has raised the bar of bigotry so high that she and her family dwell pretty much alone, and in doing so have changed the dialogue. The biggest coup of all will be when Phelps-Roper makes her inevitable appearance on The O’Reilly Factor and Bill O’Reilly, after being cowed by her formbidable oratory skills (she is a lawyer, after all, albeit a totally crazy one), is forced to say we’re not so bad after all.

Watch the three videos of Shirley Phelps-Roper outside the Southern Baptist Convention after the jump.

Has anyone started a campaign to buy these people a plane ticket and find them amnesty in another country? It seems pretty obvious there’s really nothing about America they appreciate, so why not send them somewhere else? :-)

Speaking as someone who was a local LGBT activist in the next town over from the Phelpies for 10 years, I *strongly* disagree with the idea that they make “centrists” out of the garden-variety ‘phobes. I think they provide an easy out for those people to say, “Well, I may not want to give a queer person a job, or I may not want them to have any sort of relationship protections, but I’m not THAT bad. ”

I mean, really — does anyone believe for even a second that half of these normally-homophobic people who are so offended by the Phelps clan are really changing the way they view gay people? Hell no. The Phelpies just allow them to feel better about themselves by comparison.

I think, actually, we should instead, find someone to do to them, what exterminators do to roaches… the state of Kansas should come in, take the children away and give them to nice deserving gay couples that would teach something other than hate. The bitch isn’t much more than a whore if she’s bore 11 children.. oh, I’m sorry, that would be giving a whore a bad name… my bad. She is a baby factory, one that needs to be shut down.. for the cunt is breeding hate.. and is it just me.. or does ole Fred look like the satin figure on Poltergeist … hmmmmm anyway, they’re all going to Hell anyway, they’re passing judgement over us all.. and since the cunt knows the bible so well, we all know what happens to those who sit in judgement.. much like casting the first stone.

gee whizz, she must have a sore throat! I feel for her children being brought up with that sort of hatred to others. Who, I wonder, will be next on her hate list? she had a hateCanada, HateSweden….etc etc could it be the jews, blacks, chinese, people who do not conform to her ideal and that of her father. I think the Bible, in all its glory, is the cause of too many problems, not because of what it says because not many of us have the intellect and high state of understanding to derive from it its true meanings. I have read the Bible and can take some things from it and put them to good use like “Love thy neighbour” and so on but I prefer Gandhi, not that he is a God but his way of viewing others and loving people and having a tolerance for people who just dont understand that we are all here to get on and help one another.
She is coming across as an attention grabber and why would you go out of your way to tell everyone you hate them? to insight hate and this is not what it is all about.

Shirley is just as bad as the guy who is interviewing her. He is all about all about gays going to hell just as much as she is. She is, at least, open and out there with here crazy psycho babble. He doesn’t want all the negative publicity that Shirley pulls in, so he isn’t as expressive with his crazy ideas as well. Furthermore, the dude is against women being preachers…and even admitted it during this video.

Would you trust a doctor from 2,000 years ago to practice on you? The ones that would break open your skull to “release the demons” every time you had a headache? Of course not! So why would someone take the literal words from 2,000 years ago and apply to today’s standards?

By the way – I’m not gay. Not even close to being gay. I have nothing against gay people, and feel that they desereve the same rights as everyone else – I don’t think gays should be discriminated nor do I feel that they should receieve any special priviledge. What Shirley Roper and this dude are saying is just flat out delusion.

I think that about covers it.

I live in the land of hatred and bigotry for homosexuality… Alabama, where right now they are fighting to ban all homosexual behavior whatsoever. Not just marriage, but the people. The Governor’s race is based on this platform. She is not the only one that has insane beliefs, and sad to say not the worst to push them on others. People with real power to do horrible damage to lives they know nothing about are going to hurt a lot of people badly if it doesn’t stop. Her religous beliefs are a sword that cuts and a shield that protects her from the real truth, God is love (The bible says so…). Tolerance for those who are different seems to escape a “god loving christian woman”. I will pray for her and all those like her to know the truth…we are all God’s children, not just who she thinks is worthy.

I don’t hate the woman. I genuinely feel sorry for her. I am not religious at all, I do not believe in a god because quite simply all the evidence suggests the bible was written by men, and not ‘prophets’ from the lord, whom, if the Bible is to be believed, is not a man, but a force. However, I have no problem with people that have spiritual beliefs, I respect them, and their beliefs, just as long as they keep those beliefs to themselves and don’t preach. By definition, a belief is a personal matter and by this, means that human nature dictates that we all have and are entitled to different ones. When one reads the bible one sees things like Adam and Eve, people managing to divide minimal amounts of food between thousands of people. Now when I quizzed Christians on this, they said that parts of the bible such as these are ‘symbolic’ and that they clearly did no happen, but are ‘symbolic of the lord’s word’. And yet other parts are supposed to have happened, supposed to be justified. What reliability is there in a book where a religion simply picks and chooses what’s true and what isn’t? Shirley Phelps-Roper picks and chooses, uses it to justify her prejudice against homosexuals, just as other Christians do so in a less hate-driven way. She’s ENTITLED to her beliefs, let her have them! It’s the terrible, cruel way she airs them that is offensive and must be stopped. I don’t know about US law since I’m a school girl in the UK but surely there are laws that can stop her protesting at funerals? She wants to ‘spread the word’ and convert people and reach them and affect them be it in a positive or negative way. She only has 100 active supporters in the WORLD for goodness sake, by presenting the woman with airtime we’re only giving her what she wants, and therefore helping her. She, just like her kids and her siblings, is utterly brainwashed. She’s not evil, she genuinely believes this and no doubt, somewhere deep in her gnarled soul, wants to ‘help’ us. Her views are nuts but she’s entitled to them and by saying she should rot in some imaginary place that nobody has any knowledge or proof of is just as wrong as she is! Plus of course, if the ‘Lord’ in her bible did indeed say ‘Love thy neighbour’ she really just pooed on her own parade. She says she ‘loves gays more than we do, because she wants to help them, not lie to them’, but by calling them names she knows are derogatory and horrible, she must know she is driving them away and letting us all see her for the brainwashed, angry, bitter lunatic that she is. If she really DID love gay people and still believed that they are sinners, surely she’d try to help them in a positive way? She’s utterly zombie-fied into genuine submission. I just hope she makes peace with herself and the world before her time is up.

In this unbelievably ignorant woman’s case, I am simply choosing not to listen. I’m shutting her off. I absolutely refuse to allow Shirley Phelps-Roper any space in my mind. Her arguments are not worth arguing against. “Never argue with a fool, for then it becomes hard to tell the difference.”

Wow… where have I been? I just accidentally ran across this crazy lady today… 15 Mar 07. She is surely full of hatred and being controlled by satan. I worry terribly about her children. She is a cult leader and her family are her members. It is so sad that people like her exist. Do you think if we ignored her she would go away?
I guess I need to pray “God forgive her, for she know not what she does”
What does the Baptist organization think of this? I am not a Baptist myself but I sure would be upset if I were, to think someone like her is using my denomination with her beliefs.
We need not give her any more air time…

This is what happens when you derive your core identity out of a religious belief system; you must defend it at all cost. Her way of defending her identity is just more caustic, more verbal, more in your face, and more direct than most. If everyone were to honestly look at themselves they will see how they, too, defend a belief system, and thus their identity. No matter how you do it you remain in delusion. All defensive maneurverings are actions which blind one from seeing what’s actually and really true because they obscure the underlying truth of one’s very being, what you are prior to the arising of an egoic identity.
