A Mormon singer is offering some harsh words for Donald Trump. Her name’s Jan Chamberlin, and she a heroine — and more qualified to be president than the guy taking over in just two and a half weeks.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is one of the only groups that has agreed to participate in Donald’s inauguration, and Jan said that the feels “betrayed” by the decision. “I submit my resignation,” she wrote to the choir. “looking from the outside in, it will appear that Choir is endorsing tyranny and [fascism] by singing for this man,” she added.
For their part, the choir says the performance is voluntary. But given how comfortable the Mormon church has shown itself to be with regressive, cruel politics, it’s no surprise that their members are all too eager to raise their voices in song for Donald.
But not Jan. “I could never look myself in the mirror again with self respect,” she wrote. “I only know I could never ‘throw roses to Hitler.’ And I certainly could never sing for him.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
It’s a similar reaction to that of the Rockettes, who were pressured by their management to perform against their will for Trump before the organization backpedaled a bit. And it’s also following high-profile refusals from other prominent entertainers to set foot anywhere near the inauguration. So far, Donald has a reality show loser, some Mormons and whatever Rockettes were willing to give up their principles, and maybe the Beach Boys. Sounds like a fun party.

Well someone is gonna be condemned to hell for this. Or Planet Kolob?, or where ever the hell Mormons get condemned to.

The church is run by a group of 80 year old men. She is expecting it to behave in a way that is completely opposite to reality.
There are so many good people in the Morman church. I wish they would wake up to the fact that it’s all a sham and the church causes more harm than good.

Since the vast majority of the mormon church are required to belive that their top leaders say, you find very little sentiment in any Mormon activity wherein the members of the mormon religion will be accepting of you if you are openly gay. Boy Scout activities, rules to live by, things tp never do…it get to be so far away from living a real life. Mormons geneally don’t accept their mormon kids. When I told my dad I was gay, he yelled at me over the phone telling my I owed him grandchildren. I grew up in Salt Lake City, went to BYU, got out in 1976; I was even more gay and was about to head to Albuqueue and get a real job in technology. Albuquerque. I loved Albuquerque, but the oppotunities need to better myself meant I was going to San Franciso; I had a good job waiting for me and turned out better than I though it would be, You most definately must continualy be on you toes.Salt Lake isn’t so bad anymore. San Francisco, your turn to drive. I thought thinks were getting better, I take them ona 5 day trip through Yosemite, pay for it, they still thought they were hurt because I was back in their good graces. I guess I should have known better. I paid for the Yosemite trip, all they had do was get to the meeting spot in the valley. We met eachother on time; hugs and loves all over. Sadly, near then end they droped their mormon stuff and that they wish had avter all that I ‘d don by plannting abd getting the ertra large rooms at the lodge that they would have said thanks to me. Well, they eventually they did say thankyou to me, after wards my youngest brother stold we it still needed to set up out I told the it’s been in a great time and every on.
NO MAN CAN SERVE TWO MASTERS…KIND OF BULLSHIT ALL THEY WAY TUROUGH

@Kieran: Sounds right to me… can someone put Kieran to bed, give him his binky and change his diapee?
Sorry the big, bad Mormon lady hurt your fee-fees by making a choice you disagree with as to where she would perform!

I doubt she’ll be the only one. Good for her.

She’s a quitter and we don’t like quitters. But let me tell you. The Mormon’s have a great, great tabernacle. These people in Utah…believe me they can sing. This show is going to be tremendous.
ChrisK
@Herman75: Nope she has a conscience which makes her a winner. The show will be a tremendous show of shit.

I think the whole Mormon religion is a pie of cow dung.
Friends of mine who are Catholics have a daughter who was about 20 when this occurred.
The daughter was swayed by a Mormon recruiter to change her religious affiliation & join the Mormon Church.
Her parents were distressed but there was no changing the daughter’s decision.
As a new member of the church she began to hang out with other Mormons her own age. She finally fell in love with one of them and they decided to get married.
The wedding took place in the Mormon temple in Salt Lake City. As it is usually the bride’s parents who pay for most of the wedding costs, they shelled out for the whole thing.
Come wedding day they flew to SLC for the event only to be told they could not attend the wedding in the tabernacle as they were not “Temple Worthy”.
So they were forced to sit in their rented, in a parking lot, while their only child exchanged her wedding vows.
That did it for me. The ignorant people who are sucked into this phoney religion are a total waste of skin. Just slightly ahead of the Tommy Cruise whackos.

Didn’t the Mormon church not let black people in their church many years ago? Of course they will be singing at Mr Trump’s party.

Anyone that tells you that they know what happens to you after death is either trying to control you, or your money.

@Kieran: “Sore loser. Somebody put this big baby in a crib and let her cry her eyes out.”
So you can’t understand why someone would stand up for their own ethics? And anybody with principals is a crybaby to you? I guess you will just have a party when marriage equality and non-discrimination laws are overturned won’t you, Trump toady? And those who protest will just be “sore losers” in your childish mind?

My experience with Mormons is limited to the young men (almost exclusively young men, as far as I can tell) whom the Mormons send all around the world, as seen in “The Book of Mormon.” They are always neatly pressed, shiny-faced and very nice, even if they have encountered, as they did in me on one memorable afternoon a few years back, someone who simply wants to make fun of their religion. The whole Garden of Eden in Missouri thing. I made fun. They smiled politely. Afterward, I felt rather a heel. But to the point of this story. Good for Jan. I hope others will follow. The election of the Orange Orangutan to the presidency of the United States is a unique disaster in political history, and every form of protest, no matter how large or how small, is a good thing as far as I’m concerned. I’m sure all will be well for Jan.

Religion (or cults, sects, and knaves) need to stay out of politics. We must fight back if the line is blurred. Oppression takes off like a prairie fire. When they haven’t the talent to win hearts, political oppression will do. What this cult did in California was a failed attempt at persecution. Get away from me, man in a pressed, white, short-sleeve shirt on a bicycle. Your nefarious, bread king, duplicitous schism is just as ordinary as all of the other political footballs punted about in Congress. Stay out of politics. If you cannot win hearts, then examine your message. Banality bites. Good for Jan Chamberlin, maybe now she can question why the cult sucked her in.
