Morning Aural: Toto

https://youtu.be/-HKYgJpgD1w
Toto‘s “Africa” may be one of the best (if not nonsensical) songs of the 1980s. No surprise, then, that it ranks as the American band’s biggest hit. What is surprising, however, is that this is the only non-live music video we could find – sure, there are karaoke videos and a really weird one based on Warcraft, but none featuring the band.

We were hesitant to post this one, because it has Spanish subtitles. Then we thought, “Whatever, these kids need to work on their Spanish skills”. Why would you need to work on your Spanish skills? In case you ever get a Spanish lover – it’ll come in handy. Trust us…

(Oh, we’ve also included the English lyrics after the jump. We’re so international.)

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
Shes coming in 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, hurry boy, its waiting there for you

Chorus:
Its gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
Theres nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do whats right
Sure as kilimanjaro rises like olympus above the serengeti
I seek to cure whats deep inside, frightened of this thing that Ive become

Chorus

(instrumental break)

Hurry boy, shes waiting there for you

Its gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
Theres nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in africa, I bless the rains down in africa
I bless the rains down in africa, I bless the rains down in africa
I bless the rains down in africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
