Moving Up?

By Andrew Belonsky July 17, 2008 at 2:07pm · 26 comments

New MSNBC president Phil Griffin definitely has big plans for sappho-journo Rachel Maddow: “At some point, I don’t know when, she should have a show. She’s on the short list. It’s a very short list. She’s at the top.” [NY Times via Soup Cans]

Rachel rocks totally. She deserves and has completely earned her right to have her own show.

Rachel is smart, funny, and more of a journalist than Matthews or Scaborough will ever be.

  • crazylove

Yeah, she’s smart, but still a talking head personality rather than straight (pardon the pun) journalism. I lament the lose of hardcore investigative reporting in favor of talking head infotainment.

    GREAT NEWS

I haven’t laughed so hard for quite awhile, when Rachel filling in for Keith Olbermann discussed Bush’s energy plan, telling people to turn off their air conditioners.
Rachel commented, ” So Bush’s energy plan is lireally HOT AIR!”

    July 17, 2008 at 4:07pm
  • mark

btw… if Rachel replaced Joe Scarborrough or David Gregory,(Bush’s butt-buddy), it would be even SWEETER.

I could watch her for hours, hours I tell you.

I didn’t think anything could displace my Olbermannia, but Rachel’s stint in his chair just left me sighing, “Keith who?” She was brilliant: insightful, clever, committed and bitingly vicious like Keith, but without his tendency to seem to be just this side of a sudden violent rampage.

Love her on the radio, love her on TV…she’s just my mostest favoritest lesbian pundoid ever.

Christ, just what MSNBC needs – another left wing nut job to keep up the Obama ball-licking. She has got to be THE most annoying, slanted COMMENTATOR next to that blowhard Olbermann.

MSNBC has gone from being a good channel to a total piece of shit…..Matthews, Maddow, Olbermann, Mika – where are their disclosures that they MUST be working for Obama???!!!

Rachael kicks ass. She is great, my favorite.

  • CHURCHILL-Y

Good to see she wont be left in the street once that AirAmerica ship sinks completely if it hasn’t already. Although she is kinda the female version of Keith, it’s going to be hard seeing so much Obama cheer leading on one channel.

Rachel is awesome. Love her. She has a brain and isn’t afraid to use it. Love her. She has an honest sense of humor, not something at all fake. Love her. She’s got a smart mouth, but isn’t (too) irreverent (well, ok, she is a bit). Love her! Sees through all the crap, and says she doesn’t like **either** presidential candidate. Love her! Did I mention that I love her?

Excellent news. Rachel Maddow is brilliant and I’d totally watch a show that she presented!

I think we should start the official Rach fan club. Can’t those fools at MSNBC see that Chris Matthews is a fucking douche bag deluxe?

    July 17, 2008 at 7:07pm
  • Mr C

More power to her, she deserves it.

Is there any moment when that damn CHURCHYCHICKEN can leave Obama out of a discussion.

You don’t like him QUEEN what’s the OBSESSION?

Love Rachel but haven’t watched MSNBC for months because it was night after night of Hillary bashing. The Obamalamadingdong every night is just too much for me.

Does she by some chance have a gay twin brother?

    July 18, 2008 at 12:07pm
  • seitan-on-a-stick

I love Rachel, too, but stopped listening to Air America Radio after all the Hillary-bashing and now look where we are….though I am for Obama now. I won’t watch right-wing cable until we have A La Carte programming. Why should I pay for 99% of Right Wing Crap when I can turn it off for free now?

    July 18, 2008 at 12:07pm
  • seitan-on-a-stick

Churchill-y, whatever you pay your therapist, it’s NOT enough!

I am totally impressed with Rachel and think she is intelligent, insightful, and very telegenic. I also love that she isn’t intimidated by going toe-to-toe with Pat Buchanan. I think she has a huge future ahead of her.

    July 18, 2008 at 2:07pm
  • Scamp

I wish she could dress the way she used to on TV: long-sleeved, button-down oxford cloth shirt and jeans. But MSNBC is determined to make Rachel look like a high school principal (her words) via makeup and wardrobe. Still, she’s an out dyke!!!!

    July 18, 2008 at 5:07pm
  • Dilroy

If they promoted her then MSNBC has as much right to claim to be fair & balanced as Foxnews does. Just opposite sides of the same coin.

    July 19, 2008 at 1:07am
  • Dan

    She is brilliant.

    July 19, 2008 at 7:07am

Love her, love her, love her! More Rachel! Less Gregory and Matthews!

    July 20, 2008 at 3:07am

She’s great – does she remind anyone else of Jon Stewart? Has anyone even seen them in a room together?
