If you’re prone to the same kind of holiday melancholy that songs like “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” and Joni Mitchell’s “River” inspire—both of which Tracey Thorn covers on her new holiday disc, Tinsel and Lights—you’re gonna love “Joy.” One of two original songs on the Everything But The Girl singer’s collection of holiday covers and standards, the track is a “secular carol,” as Thorn herself put it on NPR recently, that shows just why all the tinsel and lights are so reassuring at the darkest, coldest time of the year. “You loved it as a kid / And now you need it more than you ever did.” It’s a better “reason for the season” than we’ve heard in an awful long time!

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 15 years since Everything but the Girl rocked our world with Walking Wounded. It’s nice to see Tracey Thorne is still around. I’m not much of a Xmas fan though so I’ll have to wait around til her next album…:) Hopefully it’s as chic and sophisticated as Walking Wounded.

Missing is still one of my favourite songs. Glad to have you back, we don’t have many musically talented people from the North-East of England.

It’s a nice song and I love Tracey’s voice.
My favorite modern “Christmas song” is Tim Minchin’s White Wine In The Sun. Basically it says, “I’m not up with all this religious crap but getting together with family and friends at Christmas is something I still look forward to.”

@Jonathonz: Dude, Amplified Heart was their definitive work, their masterpiece, the album right before Walking Wounded. My God it was angelic. Best break-up album EVER!
