A 40-year-old teacher in the U.K. has been sentenced to five years in jail after engaging in some bad bedroom behavior with a 14-year-old schoolboy.
“I was nervous because obviously I had never done it before,” the boy testified in a London court.
Gary Pearce (pictured) met the kid on Grindr in the summer of 2012. The boy claims he was “curious” when he downloaded the app, and that he lied about his age to sign up. He and Pearce swapped nudie pics before agreeing to meet for some afternoon hanky panky.
Pearce met the boy in the parking lot of a nearby grocery store.
“I don’t remember what we talked about but he put his hand on my leg,” the boy testified. “I didn’t expect it so I jumped, but not too much.”
The pair drove back to Pearce’s home where the boy said he “showed me around his house” before the two got naked and had sex. Afterwards, they took a shower together. Then Pearce brought the kid back to the grocery store parking lot.
Pearce admitted to having sex with the teen, but maintains he thought the boy was over the age of 16, the age of consent in the U.K. But the teen claims otherwise. He told detectives “I said how old I was. I said I was 14 or 15.” He also claims he sent Pearce a picture of himself wearing his school uniform.
When Pearce was arrested, police discovered “indecent images of children” in the trash folder of his computer.
Detective Inspector Neal Burton told the media, “Pearce utilized the internet to manipulate the child into meeting him. This crime again shows the vulnerability of the internet and social media, which is used by pedophiles to meet their victims. This conviction will provide reassurance that we will relentlessly pursue those who commit these dreadful crimes against children.”
When asked how he felt about everything that had happened between him and Pearce, the teen told authorities, “Well, I now have sort of a girlfriend.”
