Netflix demonstrated it’s love of all things LGBTQ once again with the announcement that the streaming giant will partner with actress Emma Roberts for First Kill, a new vampire series dubbed “the gay Twilight.”
Entertainment Weekly reports that First Kill–-which the magazine describes as a cross between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Twilight–will run for an eight-episode season. Based on the short story by author V.E. Schwab, the story follows an ambitious lesbian vampire teen named Juliet who has her sights set on gaining power in a prominent vampire clan. Things get complicated when she falls hard for Calliope, a beautiful young woman who also happens to be a vampire hunter.

Schab and Roberts will both produce the series alongside Felicia D. Henderson, who will act as the series’ showrunner. It’s not clear at this time if Roberts, whose credits include American Horror Story and Scream 4, will also star in the show.

Frankly, we hope that the presence of lesbian vampires also hints that we’ll see some good looking male vampires as well. Earlier this year, Queerty asked Catherine Hardwicke, the director of Twilight about addressing some of that series’ homoeroticism. The director said a gay version of Twilight would be a premise worth exploring. Emma Roberts, take note.

This is what Queerty has been doing lately.
It seems to have dropped “Lesbian” from its vocabulary entirely for some reason. So now I never know if a headline will lead me to an article about gay men or about l gay women. Seems like most of their “gay such and such” stories have been about lesbians lately though so I have started to expect them to solely be lesbian articles any time I see “gay” in the headline.
I am totally fine with lesbian themed stories as its “Queerty” after all and not “Gay Male-ty”. I won’t bypass them, I’d even welcome an increased number of them. I just don’t appreciate the bait and switch at all. I would prefer they get labeled as “lesbian”. Lesbians get their own distinct word and category in “LGBT”. If we are no longer splitting gay men and gay women into the “gays and lesbians” subcategories then I guess we should just call it the “GBT” community.
As for the show itself, I will probably watch it. I like lesbian themed storylines, although it would be nice if we could get more gay male stuff. Its a lot rarer on TV than Lesbian stuff is.

Reading my mind.. wasn’t sure it was politically correct to state the obvious. Again we ll watch also , but did get a bit annoyed about his pic and the actual theme. Friend who runs a major cities GAY cinema event , says you try as much as possible to use the GAY word in description because lesbian movies aren’t as big a draw. But to be politically correct they need to be 50 50 the point about Gay used to broadly and lesbian just for woman is right on.. maybe men can just be called HAPPY ?

When does Queerty decide to use the term gay, lesbian, queer, or whatever? Often seems to miss the mark on the actual story. So many times calling people from past generations queer and mixing things up all the time. Things that make you go hmmmm.

Most likely bc Queerty doesn’t advertise to lesbians as part of its main demographic. How many of us guys would click on a lesbian pic? Maybe 10 out of zero.
Stories about lesbians barely exist on this site. This is a guys who loves guys site. Which of course we love.
