“He’s Bi-Homicidal, it’s not the same thing. He’s killing them, not dating them. He’s not actually having sex with anyone. He’s drinking their blood. You might need to delete your Tinder if that is what you think. Dracula has always fed off men and women. … Horror should be transgressive, it should not be cozy. I think there are some really, really weird things in this, and I’m very proud of that.”— Dracula co-creator Stephen Moffat to The Times. The series premiered on BBC1 January 1 after much ado over the titular character’s sexuality.

New ‘Dracula’ apparently isn’t bisexual, he’s ‘bi-homicidal’

It did alot better the Doctor Who. Which rolled in at 4,88 million. Which is awful,

This translates to Dracula itself not being able to draw a huge paying audience by itself anymore so lets try the gay angle and see of four or five million of them will pay to see it. I’ll wait for its cable debut on The Movie Channel, which is where trashy movies that should have never been made in the first place generally debut and stay.

Its a TV series, not a movie. Nobody’s “paying to see it”.

I am getting tired of the entertainment industry using “queerdom” merely to invoke something transgressive or supposedly subversive. This ain’t the 90’s anymore. It just feels cheap and passé now, especially if you don’t go all the way with it.

I’m just glad they’r using it period. Would you rather go back to the days where every movie and TV show was heteronormative and if LGBT people existed at all they were either sick and depraved or punchlines?

It does sort of dampen the enthusiasm for gay super heroes to hit the screen. I found the gay line in Star Trek very melancholy. It was politically correct but seriously, was it really necessary to tell where and with whom a Star Trek member slept? I can already see the dull cliche of the superhero flying down and picking up his/her other half and flying off into the sunset. But hey, whatever it takes to get those seats and cash registers at those overpriced concession stands filled is all that matters.

What should they do instead, Bob LaBlah? Bite their mate’s head off like a praying Mantis? Why is it “dull” for a same sex couple to get their happily ever after? Are you that damned nostalgic for the “bury your gays” trope?

Dracula drinks blood, not semen.

Best comment of the lot.

What about Mina and Lucy or his trio of vampire brides? I guess I was hoping this time there would be some vampire grooms thrown into the mix as well, or maybe he would be into Jonathan to some degree this time. If this is yet another romp into heteronormative land, I’m not interested whatsoever.

If you’ve read Bram Stoker’s Dracula you’d know he was bisexual. Remember Victiorian times where sex in literature was subliminal.

Uh it’s on Netflix, was just released early in the morning today, like 4AM.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first two episodes, hated the final third episode (vapid twenty-somethings and their phone addictions replaced the classic Dracula supporting cast of characters). Still, would def rewatch it again sometime.
