By the looks of this strategically timed message from Camp Hillary, you’d almost think she’s running for public office.
Just days (or day!) away from the Supreme Court’s ruling on national same-sex marriage, Clinton has released a video proclaiming that it’s “time for marriage equality.”
“The story of America is one of hard-fought, hard-won progress,” she begins, foreshadowing her own projected rise to power. But this is about the gays, after all.
“Barriers that once prevented people from enjoying the full measure of liberty, the full experience of dignity and the full benefits of humanity have fallen away,” she continues.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“Some have suggested that gay rights and human rights are separate and distinct, but in fact, they are one and the same.”
It’s not exactly a groundbreaking position, but this message needs to land in as wide a field as possible.
We’ll call this a solid home run.
Watch below:
All love is equal. It’s time for marriage equality.

Ok, I admit it. I’m teary-eyed after watching this.

Hillary who?
No, this is nice. Makes me feel terribly unromantic, though. I didn’t do any of that wedding stuff.
AtticusBennett
meanwhile, literally every single GOP contender is competing to see who is the most anti-gay, while gay republicans pretend that they’re not a collective of sackless wimps who are doormats for a living.
Derek Williams
First class.
Derek Williams
@AtticusBennett: True. The Republican party have opposed every single LGBT rights ordinance in US history, including DADT Repeal, DOMA Repeal, Prop 8 Repeal, LGBT anti-discrimination laws, White House LGBT RIghts Memorandum, ENDA and same sex marriage. They have made it abundantly clear they do not believe in civil equality for minorities (or universal healthcare for the poor that matter, shamelessly and childishly filibustering to the point of shutting down the U.S. government). They represent the self righteous and judgmental attitudes condemned by the very Jesus whose values they falsely claim to uphold.
AtticusBennett
@Derek Williams: yup.
and gay republicans don’t yet get it – the reason the GOP hasn’t embraced equality is because gay republicans give them no reason to.
“don’t worry! we’ll still support you and hate liberals even as you continue to promote prejudice against us!”
the day gay republicans, and their so-called “friends and families”, grow a spine and make it clear that they’ll no longer support a party that actively works against human equality, is the day they’ll start to change.
as we have it – the GOP cares more about getting votes from the bigoted scum of the country. and it’ll be their undoing.
billywonka
Whew – excellent video. Well made.

Not just a home run, a grand slam! Thank you for posting this. It reinforces my faith in this great woman.

@Robert Zakem: I watched it again, now I’m teary eyed too.

@Derek Williams:
Very well said.
@Glücklich:
Not doing any of that wedding stuff, is romantic. I’ve got nothing against a big wedding, though. To each his own.
Matt1961
Tell you what, I’m still trying to do my due diligence and vote for the right person for POTUS, but this is just stunning. Hillary just took a few large steps up the ladder for me.
Giancarlo85
Gay Republicans will never get anything. They are clueless. The same applies to those who voted for Romney yet call themselves that fiscal conservative nonsense. Gay Republicans think they are voting for the guys who are better for the economy, but that is proven incorrect by facts.
Give it time before those self hating clowns show up in here and bash on Hillary and say they’ll vote for Rand Paul or something. Absolutely no class.
cjc1414
Now she can divorce Bill & marry her GF.
kofender
In 1990, a magazine article came out naming the 10 women most qualified to be POTUS. Among those on the list was one woman who was on various corporate boards, was an influential lawyer, and, oh yeah, happened to be married to the governor of Arkansas (yes, it was an afterthought). Fast forward a few years, when Hillary used to hang out at the diner across the street from our apartment (my partner was still alive then) in Astoria, NY. She was running for the Senate then and she was spectacular in that role. Then she became the best Secretary of State in 100 years. Even back in 2000, Hillary was promoting LGBT rights (as she told us in one-on-one conversations). So while I admire Bernie Sanders, Hillary has had me for the past 25 years.
This video was just beautiful (and yes, I teared up), but not the least bit unexpected. In her actions, I’ve known she was always on our side. Brava, Madame Secretary (and soon to be Madame President).
robho3
While that was a very nice video clip, I still won’t vote for Hilary. She is so fake- she will pander to any audience that is in front of her. If democrats want to win in 2016 we need to find a better candidate than her.
GayEGO
At last! We are human beings after all!
Thanks Hillary!
GTT
I am surprised – I thought the tide had turned with the GOP – but it looks like 2004 all over again.
The gay issue is a total win for Hillary – she will clean the floor with whoever wins the GOP nomination.
GTT
robho3,
You won’t vote for Hillary? Who do you plan to vote for? Jeb Bush? Marco Rubio?
Seriously?
Talk about pandering – Jeb Bush has already switched positions a dozen times depending on backlash and polls in the last couple of months. Think about who he would appoint to top positions – anti-gay nuts.
Rubio seems to have a little more integrity than Jeb Bush – but they are both anti-gay. Jeb Bush is more socially conservative than George W. Bush.
jar
@kofender: Funny- while Hillary was telling you she was for gay rights, she publicly took the position that same sex marriage was a “state’s rights” issue. Did you hear the whistle?
Giancarlo85
@robho3: Bullcrap. You’ll vote for a republican because you hate Hillary so much. So who the heck are republicans pandering to? And don’t name me another democrat because none have enough sway in the polls or enough resources to mount a successful challenge.
Go ahead and vote for a republican because you hate Hillary so much. You’re just as low as it comes. Just like every other gay republican out there willing to sell their civil rights and dignity.
@jar: Hillary is in favor of same sex marriage at the federal level.
You gay right wingers are all the same and you’re all full of crap.
cjc1414
Wow, now HC can divorce Bill and marry her GF!!!!
cjc1414
Hopefully HC will not get the nomination, she has done so many despicable things and not just in recent years, it goes way back. I would love to see a woman in the WH, just not her.
Billy Budd
@cjc1414: Which despicable things did she do? I am not an american and I am not informed.
cjc1414
@robho3: I totally agree with you.
cjc1414
@Matt1961: Please listen to that speech again, she said same sex marriage should be a state’s rights decision. She is so full of shit, she says what she feels the people want to hear.
Derek Williams
I don’t know how much more committed Hillary Clinton could possibly be than in this United Nations speech she gave on LGBT equality which all the Islamic countries walked out on:
http://youtu.be/MudnsExyV78
If you have found a pro LGBT Republican presidential candidate please come with the name and what credibility they have that surpasses that of either Obama or Clinton.
Glücklich
Ugh all this talk of pandering to whomever she’s addressing. Jesus Christ you’d think she’s a politician or something.
States’ rights, Federal, whatever…Mrs. Clinton’s not against it and not running her mouth off about reversing a potential favorable SCOTUS decision. I may not agree with all of the policies she’s yet to articulate but since this item is focused on same-sex marriage, in my book she’s winning on the subject at hand.
GTT
Hillary Clinton is explicitly pro-gay. If people do not like her come up with a more honest reason. All the GOP candidates are explicitly anti-gay and would appoint even more anti-gay people to leadership positions throughout their administrations.
Hillary Clinton is pro-business and pro-gay – I would think a gay republican would like her.
I am beginning to think that gay republicans actually WANT an anti-gay candidate in the WH. Do they like abuse?
Clark35
No she’s not pro-LGBT, she’s just pretending to be.
She never was before, and that’s more valid than a silly video.
Giancarlo85
@cjc1414: Except she never said that.
And what despicable things did she do?
Asides from make many countless pro-LGBT speeches before the UN before Obama was even in favor of same sex marriage?
@Clark35: Thanks for proving you’re full of it. So which republican are you voting for? Rand Paul? Is he pro-LGBT? LOL.
You right wing self haters need to come up with better material and not this recycled trash.
kookookachoo
I think we are being poed by a couple Republicans in sheeps clothing. It’s all over the internet that the Repubs want to divide and conquer HC’s base by using poe behavior. I’m watching for it and this looks suspicious enough to me to qualify.

Kiss my ass right wing troll bots!
December 6th, 2011:
“Today, I want to talk about the work we have left to do to protect one group of people whose human rights are still denied in too many parts of the world today. In many ways, they are an invisible minority. They are arrested, beaten, terrorized, even executed. Many are treated with contempt and violence by their fellow citizens while authorities empowered to protect them look the other way or, too often, even join in the abuse. They are denied opportunities to work and learn, driven from their homes and countries, and forced to suppress or deny who they are to protect themselves from harm.
I am talking about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people, human beings born free and given bestowed equality and dignity, who have a right to claim that, which is now one of the remaining human rights challenges of our time. I speak about this subject knowing that my own country’s record on human rights for gay people is far from perfect. Until 2003, it was still a crime in parts of our country. Many LGBT Americans have endured violence and harassment in their own lives, and for some, including many young people, bullying and exclusion are daily experiences. So we, like all nations, have more work to do to protect human rights at home.” – Hillary Clinton (BEFORE OBAMA CAME OUT IN FAVOR OF LGBT RIGHTS)
Arcamenel
Nice try Hilary but I’m still voting for Bernie Sanders. You answer to your corporate sponsors not the American people.
Alistair Wiseman
This is an odd change for a woman whose evolution on same-sex marriage has magically mirrored the polls within her own party. In 2004, Hillary Clinton called traditional marriage “the fundamental bedrock principle that exists between a man and a woman,” and even added, “Marriage is not just a bond but a sacred bond between a man and a woman.”
Derek Williams
@Alistair Wiseman: Do you always hold people accountable for an opinion they no longer hold? What is the point of activism if you believe it is impossible for anyone ever to change their mind after they’re in possession of new information? 60% of the U.S. now support same sex marriage. Why insist on citing figures from decades ago that no longer apply?
The harsh reality of politics is that you cannot get elected without polling a majority. You have no power to do anything unless you’re elected. As is the case for left handed people and African Americans, the fact remains that LGBT are a minority who at the most can offer political aspirants only 10% of the core vote, compared to the 90% heterosexual vote. The only way therefore that LGBT rights can come to the table is through the support of our straight allies. Even a decade ago, open advocacy for same sex marriage would have slammed the door to public office firmly shut. It is by coming out to family, friends and colleagues that the LGBT minorities have slowly been able to win over the hearts and minds of a majority big enough to make it politically feasible to support equality openly. Such changes first required the dismantling of laws criminalising same sex relationships before we could even get on to base two.
Just be happy we now have political advocacy at the very highest level. Mrs Clinton is putting her cards on the table even before the primaries get underway. It doesn’t get any better than that. By contrast, every single Republican candidate so far has taken an anti-LGBT stance, with the likes of Santorum pledging to reinstate DADT. Know thine enemy. Your enemy is not Hillary Clinton. Unless you’re a 5th column Republican shill that is.
winemaker
I can’t believe the gay community is supporting this lying snake. What’s she and her liberals done for main stream America and the gay community? Nada, nothing, zilch, zip, bupkus! This woman with her husband silly ‘Billy’ brought us DADT, NAFTA and a bunch of other policies that have enriched themselves on the backs of middle class Americans. I’m sick and tired of these liberals pandering to our community, giving us ‘lip service’ and doing nothing to better our lives. The liberals are the ones giving away the country. We’re being over run with boat people and illegal aliens sucking on the taxpayers tit getting all the free public services; healthcare, welfare, food stamps, rent subsidies etc. I’m frankly sick and tired of having to pay taxes through the nose and being unable to access services that I’ve paid for through my taxes. Yes folks, God help us if this lying snake and her liberal ‘Dumbocrats’ get four more years to screw us deeper into the ground!
Derek Williams
@winemaker: Please name your choice of LGBT friendly Republican presidential candidate out of the current contenders, and itemise what they have done for LGBT rights so as to deserve our vote.
Giancarlo85
@Alistair Wiseman: Oh really? Do you realize the entire democratic party was against same sex marriage at that time? Attitudes and opinions change, but people like you’ll vote republican because you hate Hillary so much. Funny how you criticize her view from 11 years ago, yet fully endorse republicans… you’re just another GOProud type with no clue.
@winemaker: You seem to be more of a lying snake yourself. Liberals have done more for mainstream America and the gay community than anyone else. And your attitude is typical of a republican… republicans haven’t done shit for this country asides from drive us into a massive recession and several major wars.
“We’re being over run with boat people and illegal aliens sucking on the taxpayers tit getting all the free public services; healthcare, welfare, food stamps, rent subsidies etc.
Except that’s all a lie. By the way, most immigrants work and don’t take free public services, that would be actual citizens. And most immigrants contribute far more than they cost this nation. You peddle the same old republican crap without any real backing.
Why is it every republican presidency ends up in a recession? Republicans are shit for the economy and you know it.
” Yes folks, God help us if this lying snake and her liberal ‘Dumbocrats’ get four more years to screw us deeper into the ground!”
You seem to be mentally imbalanced. “Dumbocrats”? Oh yes typical insult for someone with no real argument. You want to see who screwed us deeper into the ground? It’s the political party you are voting for idiot. Look at how badly republicans have screwed this country and then get back to me.
Giancarlo85
@Derek Williams: Oh he’s too busy worrying about the “economy” (even though republicans have fucked the economy so badly in the past 40 years). I can’t believe self haters like him can vote republican because he thinks those “damn liberals” are screwing everything up.
jar
@Glücklich: Sorry, but your comment is simply ignorant of the facts. Hillary did nothing for same sex marriage. She dodged the issue with her state’s rights position until it became safe for her to stake a morally acceptable position. I don’t doubt her sincerity in approving of same sex marriage, but don’t mendaciously try to assert that she has had anything to do with the victories we’ve enjoyed- and will enjoy tomorrow.
Giancarlo85
@jar: Incorrect. Hillary has been a vocal supporter of LGBT people including in 2011, before Obama even spoke up about it. Hillary backing us has been important… and she argued about bullying, violence and so forth in front of the United Nations. She argued about the violence occurring towards gay people in other countries. Maybe we need a reality check.
