New iPhone App Allows Trans Community To Find Nearest Gender-Neutral Bathroom

A new app developed for the iPhone is helping members of the trans community avoid a potentially humiliating and uncomfortable situation: TranSquat, developed by Billy Bolt, enables users to find gender-free bathrooms near their location.

The app, powered by the Safe2Pee directory, launched earlier this year and allows members to search, add and share safe restrooms based on their phone’s GPS location. (There are currently almost 4,000 loos listed in the U.S. Canada and Great Britain.)

Bolt explains the app was developed out of a real need: “Sometimes finding a safe, discreet and comfortable restroom can be a challenge or safety issue, depending on where one is in their own transition or geographic location. [TranSquat] users can help build it by downloading it and sharing safe locations from their own communities. In that sense, a user can… build a network of safe locations no matter where in the world they reside.”
