A trans woman found stabbed in her New Brunswick apartment died from her injuries hours later on Tuesday.
According to The Guerrilla Angel Report, the victim is 26-year-old Eyricka Morgan, though she has been misgendered in the media and referred to as Evan.
Police have arrested 21-year-old Devonte Scott, who lived in the same boarding house as Morgan, charging him with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the death of Morgan. His bail has been set at $1 million.
Morgan, a former student at Rutgers, was involved with the North Jersey Community Research initiative. In 2011, she was profiled by Rutgers Today in connection with the university’s Queer Newark Conference.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“I had to make a decision,” Morgan said at the time, recalling when family members told her “all gay men have AIDS’’ and forbid her from dressing like a woman. “Either I be myself or let others control me. So at 14 or 15, I packed up all my stuff and I left.’’
Police ask anyone with information to call Det. Kenneth Abode of New Brunswick Police at (732) 745-5200 or Investigator Jose Rodriguez of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3300.

May her soul be at rest in a better place.

It appears to be open season on black transsexuals. They are being slaughtered and nobody seems to care, least of all the powerful black “civil rights” leadership.

I feel so dizzy after reading this.
Someone believed that they were supposed to live as another gender, had the bravery to create the life they wanted to live, and someone took that life away from them.
I’m just so done.

I think we know what happened here: Scott was attracted to Ms. Morgan, perhaps even hit on her, and upon learning of her pre-transition beginnings became unglued at the thought that he’d been “had.” Poor Eyricka Morgan got caught in a perfect storm of rage, fear, homophobic ignorance, and entitlement. @Keiran: Sadly, you’re correct– there’s a lot of that going around lately.

This horrible story brings to mind a tragedy that took place here in Chicago not too long ago, where a pretty 16 year old Black girl was approached by a (considerably older) Black man determined to get with her. She turned him down, explaining she was a lesbian and simply not interested in men. Enraged, her “suitor” strangled her to death.
In the wake of this tragedy, a host of self-described “Christians” flooded the airwaves of a Sunday talk-radio show to voice their indignation and support–for the murderer.

I can only hope New Jersey has the death penalty or uses hemlock appropriately!

Sad, what a beautiful person killed by homophobic rage. When will society start accepting everyone for the person that they are and not their orientation?

@Kieran: And it makes me sad. We shouldn’t have to ask ‘where are the leaders?’ of any group being hurt, ignored, disenfranchised and most of all KILLED for being who they are. But it’s our/my place to stand up and be a voice. We have to make sure everyone with a social consious knows what is happening. But sadly most of them already know but are waiting for someone else to take the lead.
You mention ‘the powerful black “civil rights” leadership’ and I ask the same question as you. Sadly the days of MLK Jr. and Medger Evans ar gone. They would be standing on the front lines, asking the questions and demanding the answers. It shouldn’t be a race thing though. Just as my people (my people being the also disenfranchised, the geeks and nerds, the gays and lesbians and all others who didn’t fit in with the norm of society (as we were taught in schools to understand what was normal)stood with the people of the civil rights movement, arm in arm, wanting equality for all.
Who is the most visible transgender today? Chaz Bono? Where is his voice on this? His father and stepmother were both political. His mother has never had a problem speaking her mind and saying what she thinks is right. No one can tell me it is just for record sales. Cher is a strong woman with a strong mind and she does stand for equality everywhere (think Soshi). But Chaz is only one person. The best he can do is lend his name to groups organized to fight the good fight.
Being from the ‘Deep South’ I have seen more than my share of hate crimes agaisnt people for all reasons. I’ve seen racism and I’ve experienced reverse-racism. I’ve been the victim of hate crimes, I’ve expeirienced grief over those who died to young for being themselves. I’ve come to hate a certain 3-letter word beginning with ‘F’ because I have known friends who died with that word being screamed at them until they drew their last breath. I’ve heard the stupidity of those educated but uncaring and unscathed by the plight of others. I’ve seen deaths from a disease that, had it affected the Middle American Hetrerosexual community, there would have been a cure found before the decade it started was over.
I keep Eyricka Morgan in my thoughts and hope whatever family she had created for herself can some day find peace with this terrible tragedy. I don’t want it to consume them. I want them to be able to close their eyes at night and see Ms. Morgan for the beautiful person she must have been. May those memories be foremost and keep a smile on their faces and the tears fall silently, not just for the tragedy they will always remember but for the hopes and dreams her friends shared with her. It’s up to them now to see those dreams come true.

Great question —
” When will society start accepting everyone for the person that they are and not their orientation? ”
.
Great solutions —
1. Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God……….Romans 15:7
2. Realize the magnitude of the following —
Man’s ways are of the Lord, how can we understand our own ways ?…..Proverbs 20:24

This is so very sad. Bless her and may her murderer be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
