UPDATE: DJs Kimberly and Beck have been fired. A statement released by the stationâs general manager notified listeners and apologized to everyone who was outraged by the duoâs antigay chatter:
âThis morning Entercom fired Kimberly and Beck effective immediately. Their hateful comments against the transgender community do not represent our station or our company. We deeply apologize to the transgender community, the community of Rochester, and anyone else who was offended by their hateful comments. We are proud of our past work on behalf of the local LGBT community and we remain committed to that partnership.â
We previously reported:
Radio DJs: theyâre generally the worst. Oh, sure, the people on NPR are all great; and indie stations like WYEP are jewels.
But then you have the morning drive-time garbage. Itâs all time-filler, at best. And at worst, itâs Kimberly and Beck, two mouths who host a morning show in Rochester.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
This morning they took to the air to complain about how the cityâs offering insurance to trans employees. The very idea!
The two basically had the worst things imaginable to say. Like, if you tried to think of the worst thing you could possibly say about trans people, it still would not be as bad as these two. Some highlights:
- About the term âtransgenderâ:Â âWhat the hell does that mean? Like youâre not a woman or a man?â
- While âDude Looks Like a Ladyâ plays: âThe dude can look like a lady and the city is going to pay for it!â
- About trans people: âyouâre probably a nutjob to begin with!â
- When a woman calls in to complain about their awful show: âthank you, sir!â
Listen to it below, if you want.
Response from readers:
- How sad and awful you show was today.
- Pretty classless, bigoted bit on the gender issue guys. I know morning talk radio has never been know for bleeding edge social commentary but that was disgraceful.
- I hail from Rochester and will never again listen to your radio show. Kimberly and Beck owe a public, heartfelt apology to those theyâve offended, including the callers who tried to inform them of their insensitivity and clear ignorance of the issue.
The station has taken the segment down, which isnât much of a solution at all. The solution: get rid of these two. Normally weâre pretty forgiving when someone puts their foot in their mouth, since lord knows weâve said the wrong thing from time to time. But these people are just irredeemable. Obviously, they should be fired, as should pretty much all babbling idiot radio hosts.

They said it for the sake of being mean, not for comedic satire (still not an excuse – just sayin). That was just a douche bag move. However – consider the source. It’s easy to hide behind a mic when you know no one can “touch” you. Have them say that in any gay neighborhood in America and they won’t make it out unscathed.

At the risk of sounding trite, they’re pukes for being stupid.

I could only listen to the first few minutes before becoming so enraged I wanted to punch something. Just get the word out and let people know what they said and stop listening to their station completely. Don’t call for their firing it only makes them FAUX News First Amendment Darlings and will prob lead to their own syndicated show and eventual obscurity when someone else runs this same tired desperate plea for nation wide attn. They were nobodies yesterday return them there today by not giving them a larger platform.
