Things are getting mean in the race for U.S. Representative of New York’s 18th District.
The current incumbent, Sean Patrick Maloney, is one of the only openly gay members of Congress. He defeated Nan Hayworth, a Republican, for the seat in 2012. But now Hayworth is coming for him and using her son in a new ad.
“As a gay man, coming to terms with who I am wasn’t easy, but my parents love me for who I am and for whom I love,” says he kid Will. “So when I hear vicious negative attacks against Nan Hayworth, I have to speak out.”
Maloney’s ads have been painting Hayworth as a conservative tea-party-affiliated extremist. And as the Human Rights Campaign has pointed out, she refused to sign marriage equality bills, or a bill to end discriminatory immigration practices.
She also opposes federal constitutional protection for marriage equality, and backed anti-gay Mitt Romney for President. She wants to repeal Obamacare, opposes gun control, and called Paul Ryan a “teacher and mentor.”
So, now you know everything you need to know about what kind of politician Hayworth is, and having a gay son doesn’t really change any of that.

Typical.

he poor stockholm-syndrome son. i have such sympathy for gay men born into republican families, where love and acceptance are barely ever doled out, and “tolerance” comes on the condition that they toe the republican line.
she’s a hideous woman, a lousy mother and it’s obvious that her son wishes he wasn’t as gay almost as much as his mother does. GOProud will love him – because lord knows his mother doesn’t.
Paco
So even though she has a gay son, she has a record of being against his equal rights on some issues.

gee, wonder why!

it’s like Matt Salmon, whose GOP father continues to oppose, and WORKS TO OPPOSE, LGBT equality, no matter how much GOP-pandering his self-hating homo son has done.
And still Matt Salmon Jr says “my father loves me”…..not really buddy. sorry. you’re gay. he wishes you weren’t. he still spends his job working to deny you equality. and you still think he loves you? just because he’s not forcing you into ex-gay therapy doesn’t mean he loves and accepts you. he tolerates you, because while he works to oppose your equality in america, you accept it like a doormat.

Hopefully, Mom and Dad will “love” him and “be there for him” when they see him in a cellphone video with some teabag, redneck, rifle swinging, truck driver’s dick in his butt in a truck stop restroom!

My right-wing, raging homophobic mother has a gay son. So what’s the kid’s point?

Why not give her a tweet, I did: @NanHayworth Using Your Self-Hating Gay Son To Try & Cover Your Anti-Gay/LGBT Beliefs And Actions Shows Your Desperation And His Misery

“Son, tell them to vote for me and I’ll hug you. but just this once. i have to be careful, i don’t want to catch AIDS”

@AtticusBennett: because people like you are posting a lot of rude assumptions and posing them as facts.
Silas Wegg
@AtticusBennett: Are your parents unloving Republicans? The way you’re carrying on, the perceived damage of right wing parenting seems deeply personal.
This guy seems like he has potential to be cute, but the hair is throwing it off.

Anyone who is Gay and Repuglican is in need of serious in-depth mental health services. I’m Liam Sauer-Wooden, and I approve this message.

@stranded: Uh, look in the mirror Two-Face! You just did the same damn thing.
I'm Black, and HIV-Positive.
@Silas Wegg: “Are your parents unloving Republicans?” All this passive-aggression, just to throw a superficial comment about getting into the boys pants? Yeah, you are so much better than everybody else.

Are we really this shocked about Republicans having hypocritical or self-contradicting opinions?

Painfully sad and sick performance by a gay son. His mother may be “there” for him, but not for the rest of gay Americans, there is no equality for gays in the GOP. The son will probably spend years in therapy, trying to understand how he could be a part of his mom’s hateful, anti-equality campaign. But then all the Log Cabin Republicans must also face their self hating actions.

She is evolving just like our president did 4 years ago!

The kid is helping his mom, what’s a gay son to do? Cut the young man some slack.

Now we’ve got politicians putting their gay kids on television campaign ads to appeal to voters?
All I can say is…..we’ve come a long way baby.

Parents suppose to to love their children and vise versa. That has no relevance when it comes to a politician who is begging for a job and wants to have the power to govern and influence the politics of it’s citizen. In this day and age, the innocent of politics does not exist at this level of political game. Sorry kid, she is your mom but she is not everyone’s mum. Frankly if you are not gay, I wonder if she would use you to prop up her campaign.

“Pinkwash?” Really? No.
Harley
It’s a good thing she has a gay son. The only way she won’t wind up in a nursing home wearing smocks. Gay kids take care of their elderly parents while the str8 kids chunk them in a nursing home and drain the bank accounts.
AtticusBennett
note how the ad doesn’t address her history of anti-gay votes, nor does it state what specific PRO-GAY votes and policies she’ll be supporting to counteract her years of anti-gay politics.
NOPE.
it’s like Matt Salmon Sr. “i love my gay son. i also vote against equality for him. but i love him! vote for me”
@Silas Wegg: nope check out my family :

In the 112th Congress, Nan Hayworth failed to support domestic partnership benefits for federal employees, and she failed to support legislation that would have provided same-sex partners of U.S. citizens the same immigration benefits that legal, different-sex spouses receive. When given the opportunity to sign onto the Respect for Marriage Act in Congress, she failed to. When asked to come out in support of marriage equality by the Human Rights Campaign, she failed again.
Her opponent on the other hand, Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, is a champion of LGBT equality. New York’s first openly gay member of Congress, Maloney is committed to full equality for LGBT people under the law. He has supported every measure of LGBT equality in the 113th Congress. From the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to support for marriage equality, Congressman Maloney is a stalwart advocate for the LGBT community with a proven record to back it up.

@MacAdvisor: Tell her she’s full of it…he must have as much self-respect as you.
NoCagada
Maybe he should hook up with Phyllis Schlaffly’s son…wouldn’t that be a harem of self-respect?
DarkZephyr
@stranded: @Silas Wegg: his mother has been consistently against rights for LGBT people. Wake up.
