SOUNDBITES — “I am compelled by the fact that the statement cannot be verified that I withdraw the statement I made in committee last Tuesday regarding the Nashua schools. I was told shortly before the hearing on HB 1590 that what I later said had happened and I firmly believed it to be so. It is for that reason and because of its relevance that I brought it up to the committee. I would have never said anything in the performance of my duties as a state representative that I did not believe was true or relevant. I am presenting this letter at the first committee meeting of Judiciary since last Tuesday. I do so at the earliest opportunity in order to make clear I am withdrawing what I said regarding the Nashua schools. I would like to apologize to Judiciary Committee, the Nashua public schools and its employees and the speaker as well as anyone else affected by what I said. I will try much harder in the future to verify fully my statement.” —New Hampshire State Rep. Nancy Elliott apologizing to many parties — for her disgusting remarks about how gay marriage will lead to fifth graders being taught about anal sex — but not gay people (via)

A letter of resignation is appropriate. Once something is said, it’s impossible to get back. You may apologize and even have that apology accepted, but the words are still floating around in the memory banks. Irreparable damage to our community would demand nothing less than the resignation of one who so abused her position of power.

I got this from a government website — http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/house/members/member.aspx — so nobody go pretending there’s, like, a gay conspiracy involved.

Rep. Elliot’s counter to this would be that she did apologize to gay people. Didn’t you read the “anyone else affected by what I said”-part?
(Well… didn’t you?)
What is interesting in this apology isn’t to whom she did or did not apologize, but toward what specific piece of errant information she was apologizing *for*.
By only apologizing for she said about “Nashua” schools, she left the door open for right-wingers to give her mistatement a pass while upholding it’s most damning message. Gays are still teaching 5th graders to have have gay sex, they’ll claim, just not in Nashua.

Everything about this woman is disgusting.

What an ignorant bitch…….Everyone needs to write a letter of disgust to this skank and let her know what you think about her comments and words.
I am ashamed and insulted that the great state like NH would elect such a judgemental, stupid, bigoted and DUMB woman to represent them.
Her apology is insincere fake, and just more “salvage all you can” PR jargon and more political spin to save her from this PR disaster.
I say resign you bigoted, judgemental and ignorant CUNT……..
NH should recall her from here elected position and kick her out of the state.
What a piece of shit human being…..ugh!

That was the most classless non-apology by a truly classless woman, that I have ever read.
Here, Ms. Piggy, let me give you what you should have said.
“I apologize for my comments. They were degrading and dehumanizing toward gay people, and factually, were totally incorrect. I unfairly and cruelty described a stereotypical sex act by gay people in a burst of irrelevant bigotry and malice. For that, I am deeply sorry to the LGBT community, that faces such hate and malice, but who work feverishly to overcome. I not only withdraw my comments, but also have changed my position. Gay marriage is a huge step toward equalizing the status of gay men an women in our state, and I fully support it. Our great state stands foremost among states in providing equal access to the law for all our citizens. It is a great lesson for all our children, and people. God bless the great state of New Hampshire, and the United States.”

Brian, great letter! My email to her was something similar, though I ended saying that there was something wrong in the head with somebody who believed that kind of filth without question and then repeated it in front of media and THE GOVERNMENT.

Umm…I think she needs to know that in the West almost 50% of heterosexual women have experienced anal intercourse, and in Africa it’s much more common in heterosexual couples as it is used as a form of contraception.

I’m a heterosexual woman in NH. I assure you that we are not all gay bashers and homophobic. We are as mortified by her ridiculous remarks as you and many here in NH are looking for ways to remove her from office prior to the next election.

I’m gay, and I find this to be FUCKING HILARIOUS!
