Is anyone out there watching DirecTV’s Kingdom? No? Anyone?
Well it might be worth a visit now that Nick Jonas‘ character has finally revealed that he’s gay in the season one finale.
It’s (reportedly) been hinted at all season — his mixed-martial artist character has previously had a freak-out upon discovering his physical therapist was gay, and froze up when he met a gay guy at the mall.
Nick also noted before the show aired that his character’s sexuality would be a major theme of the show.
So how did it happen in the show?
Well, first he gets ejected from a gay bar, and then he accepts an alley-way blowjob from a stranger.
“Byron [Balasco, Kingdom creator] told me before shooting began,” Jonas told BuzzFeed. “Everyone at Kingdom was really transparent about the character and some of the things the character would go through. And in my prep work, I wanted to be aware so I could properly tell this story.”
But just because he’s come out to Kingdom’s audience doesn’t mean any of the other characters know yet. Expect to see much more of Nick progressively coming out in season two.

Too bad there’s no way for me to watch.

And then when the show is canceled, the Nick Jonas gayfest will be over. This kind of pandering to our demographic should have been insulting…
Somebody up the good parts on Youtube or Vimeo lol

Hopefully we won’t have to see any more of those terrible mechanical straight sex scenes. And I’m still waiting for some Jonas ass. Screw this “strategic positioning” of the camera bullshit.
It is pandering though. Coming out stories have been done to death and I can see a hotter sex scene on network TV these days (How to get away with murder anyone?)
jason smeds
Oh, please, this character just looks like a straight guy who’s so drunk or drugged that he doesn’t mind who gives him a blow job. It could be animal, vegetable or mineral.
Saint Law
@jason smeds: Isn’t that how you land your ‘dates’?
Tho as to whether you’re animal, vegetable or mineral the jury is still out.
Daniel
@Saint Law: laughed hard with your comment!!
lovelivelife
@Xzamilio: If you weren’t so jaded you’d know that the show is doing so well that it was already given 2 more seasons.
lovelivelife
@Xzamilio: Also Nick Jonas is a product. Do you get mad at Pepsi when their product is sold to different demographics?
Xzamilio
@lovelivelife: I wasn’t aware Nick Jonas didn’t have control over how he is presented to the public or what he can and can’t do. Pepsi doesn’t have that option as it is nothing more than a soft drink. Try a different comparison… one that doesn’t make you look stupid. Or better yet, drink a Pepsi, because you sound thirsty as hell. You want Nick’s Jonas?
lovelivelife
@Xzamilio: I didn’t suggest he didn’t have control… I’m say he should be able to sell his brand however he chooses. The world knows gay men have more disposable income then most. I’d rather have Nick Jonas catering to his gay audience… It’s better than him being like most male celebrities and ignore us. Would you rather him be a homophobic twat like Chris Brown, Trey Songz, or all the actors who wouldn’t touch his current role with a 10 ft pole?
Xzamilio
@lovelivelife: But, I’ll admit I didn’t know it had gotten picked up for 2 additional seasons. Good for them.

Well, as far as Alleged Gay Sex Scenes on TV go, this none sex scene is an improvement in that, to date on tv, GAY SEX EQUALED ANAL SEX. Someone mentioned HTGAWM, aren’t all of the gay sex scenes on that show anal?
And, how do we know the guy wasn’t bending down to tie his shoe? I mean, was there conversation to indicate a bj? I ask because I didn’t seen the episode, have no plans to see it and, of all the things I think of when I see Nick Jonas, sex isn’t one of them.
Desert Boy
I loved ‘Kingdom’. All the actors were great and men are super hot. I hope there’s a season two. If you don’t have Direct-TV, it’s time to cut the Time Warner cord and join us.

@lovelivelife: *than

@lovelivelife: I wouldn’t rather anything… you got any more strawmen you want to throw out?

Still betting that the closet door will open

Started to watch this show and I must say I rather enjoy it. Hopefully Nick’s character will be a positive one that many can relate to and feel sympathetic towards. Nothing can be worse that that character on LOOKING who paid the hooker to film him having sex. I really don’t understand all the bitchy queens here that have been bagging Nick Jonas as I believe playing a long term gay character may have a negative impact on his future career because of being stereotyped (which I very much hope does not happen). Whether he is gay or straight or bi in real I don’t care, but I do have to applaud a young man taking a risk.

The show is quite compelling, Nick does a fine job acting – but Matt Lauria all sweaty and nearly naked is my favorite part. Nick is probably fourth in line of the hotties on this show.

@Daniel: @Saint Law: Ditto. ROTFLMAO!!!

Ohhh. I saw some gifs of his sex scenes with a woman from the show and laughed my ass off because it was so awkward looking. I just thought he was an awful actor.

@redcarpet30:
There has already been a scene where Nick showed a bit of ass
and apparently a dark ‘don’t blink or you’ll miss it’ peen shot. Try
googling for it.
demented
It looks awkward and unsexy, TBH.
@Xzamilio: You’re saying we WON’T get to see some Pepsi sex scenes? my dreams are crushed!
jwtraveler
so what?
jwtraveler
@wade.l: What’s the risk? He’s an actor playing a role. Why is it that an actor can play a priest, a serial killer, a spy, a prostitute, an astronaut, a Nazi or a fictional superhero and no one finds it remarkable or courageous, but we still haven’t gotten over the shock and fascination of an actor playing a gay character? It’s really quite oppressive to still be reading articles like this in the age of gay marriage and 45 years after Stonewall.
wade.l
@jwtraveler: Thank you for emphasizing my point
Trippy
@jwtraveler: True true, but I do remember when the media was writing articles (about ten years ago) claiming that A-list Hollywood actors simply refused to play gay roles for fear of being stereotyped as gay or for fear of “offending” their straight fans… because… you know… gay is icky. Apparently Tom Hanks’ role is Philadelphia was cool because he died or something.
And THEN Jake and Heath went full gay in BBM and Sean Penn walked off with an Oscar for Milk, and suddenly the floodgates opened. Unfortunately, A-list straight actors are still reluctant to do gay sex scenes. But god forbid you ask them to do frontal nudity, even though it hasn’t hurt the eager-to-strip British brigade (Ewan McG, D Craig, etc).
Slowly… slowly…. they’ll get there.
Stache99
@Desert Boy: I cut the Direct TV cord and went directly to streaming video. Hell no would I ever go back.
Paco
The production company should have shopped it to Netflix or Hulu. Since the show is an exclusive to a specific provider, I’ll never see it.
Desert Boy
@Stache99: You mean Roku and Netflix? I have this too.
man5996853
@Xzamilio: Strawmen my ass. You are just being the twat that you are. One can only be pandered to if one allows himself to be pandered too. The fact that the Jonas boy has succeeded says more about our community than it does about his tactics in drawing us in.
Keebler ILF
It makes me wonder if those times he was spotted at gay clubs,
was he just doing ‘research’ for the character.
Xzamilio
@man5996853: Here comes your stupid ass talking about a totally different point that I addressed… TOTAL strawman!!! “One can only be pandered to if one allows himself to be pandered too[sic].” What does that have to do with what I said? You know what, though? I don’t care what you have to say but I will agree that clearly Hollywood knows how to cater to the least common denominator in the gay community. But, don’t be stupid… “succeeded” is presumptuous. If they ARE pandering to the LCD gays, his “success” has a shelf life…
Aranos
I’m quite happy with straight guys playing gay characters. It’s a way of showing there’s nothing to be afraid of and to normalize the perception of gays amongst the general public. And I think it still takes some courage.
