Recently married Nico Tortorella has expanded his body of work with the release of all of it is you., his new collection of poetry.
It’s described as “a sensuous journey into who we are and how we relate to the world around us, showing how the connections we make are vital to understanding why we are here.”
Among the many topics the Younger star explores in verse are his own identity, gender, addiction and sex.
And we’ve got to say, it’s quite good.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

Without burying the lede any further, there’s also a poem seemingly about his own penis.
It’s called “penis.” and it’s on page 45.
And here it is:

“I like to fvck women and bottom for men and I feel like a chick sometimes”. End of the poem. But do what you gotta do to work through whatever you’re going through I guess.
There’s really no more to say about this dude. I want to believe at this point he’s just trolling people, including most bi/fluid/non-binary identifying people. It’s hard believe someone can be this earnestly self-obsessed and pretentious. Never mind how poorly written and self-congratulatory his “poetry” is.
It is getting kinda scary how persistently obsessed he is with getting attention for this, how desperate he is to prove whatever he’s trying to prove and how he persistently he tries to play a victim or some “groundbreaker”. It’s so scary that I’m regretting many of things I’ve said about him.

I’m more concerned with Queerty’s apparent obsession with him.
Troyfight
Where did he say “I like to fvck women and bottom for men and I feel like a chick sometimes”?
Armiya
He’s no Walt Whitman or E.M. Forster that’s for sure, and he’s sure his own number one fan. So sick of hearing about him. His marriage isn’t anything groundbreaking, thousands of gay men and lesbians have married, he’s not unique, he’s all about himself. Anyone writing a poem about their penis has got to be the most self absorbed a*shat there is. Not impressed.
Donston
He could’ve written a genuine essay or memoir on his sense of self, his personal struggles and his “journey”, and I would’ve been somewhat interested in reading that. But going the evasive, pretentious and/or attention grabbing route seems to be all he knows how to do.
Armiya
I don’t find what it is he’s writing and putting out there as “introspective” it’s thirsty for attention, and I don’t see it as genuine, about as genuine as the MULTITUDE of selfies and pictures of himself he’s always posting.
Roan
He’s pansexual. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Donston
There certainly isn’t a problem with it. I am inherently pansexual. However, the man-hating, racially insensitive and somewhat homophobic things he’s said are problems. Spending years constantly looking for affirmation from the public and general attention because you have sex with multiple genders (but have never legitimately dated a non cis woman) is also a bit of a problem. And these crappy poems that are odes to genitals, despite him claiming that he doesn’t see gender, is annoying if not problematic. Never mind is arrogance, tendency to play a victim, unrelenting self-seriousness and his general pretentiousness.
No one’s issues with this dude is his identity or “lifestyle”. Also, he identifies as bi (though he still mostly calls himself “fluid”) not pan.

Oh, brother…. I cannot.

I’d prefer to read about the man from Nantucket.

As poetry it’s drivel but as self-expression, it does give the reader of glimpse of the issues Tortorella is struggling with. I can’t say I’m interested, and it’s clear he could use both psychological counseling and a MFA workshop, but at least this doggerel allowed Queerty to break new ground and 1) periodically share original poetry by LGBTQ writers (is this post a first?) and 2) spur people to read and comment about creative writing on here.
Donston
That’s the problem. He’s working through his issues publicly and is trying to use the public to boost his ego and give him “approval” to simply live his life. That’s a terrible approach to self-help and to maintain your ego, depending on a bunch of strangers on social media. No one who is truly confident and comfortable within their skin and within their sense of self dedicates this much time trying to get public approval and this much effort into getting people to buy into their sense of self and into getting praise for it.
I do think everything he’s been doing for the last few years gives some insight into just how much convolution, tension and fragility can build in the mind of “queers”. But this type of persistent shallow drivel and attention grabbing antics are not the ways to work through whatever sh*t he’s still working through. Honestly, these poems read like stuff written by a “deep” and “subversive” 15 year old not a 30 year old “cultured” man who grew up in the arts. That’s what’s most troubling.
Kangol
@Donston, I agree that he is seeking public support and approval, but he’s like so many people these days, who feel like the public in its various mediated forms–social media, reality TV audiences, televised counseling shows, etc.–can provide what probably would best be worked through in private, with a trained psychological professional (counselor, psychologist, psychotherapist, psychiatrist). He is now famous, to some degree, and his fans and those around him have abetted his behavior, so I doubt he’s going to change without some profound wake-up call.
I agree about the poems. I was sincere, though, in noting that Queerty, which by its own description “celebrates LGBTQ people and culture,” rarely if ever publishes original poetry, fiction, anything literary, by real LGBTQ writers. There are some very good ones out there. Just the other day two received Pulitzer Prizes: Frank Bidart in poetry, and Andrew Sean Greer in fiction. It’s also National Poetry Month and queer poets have been receiving a lot of attention this year, as in recent years, but you’d never know it from the articles on this site. Perhaps it’s because many readers aren’t interested. Almost no one commented on the Alan Hollinghurst article, and he’s not only one of the major living English-language gay male authors, but writes overtly about gay people in the past and present. Queerty even featured an original interview with him, which I thought was thorough and informative despite its brevity.
I’d much rather read an article on Bidart or Greer or Danez Smith or any number of other talented gay/bi/queer writers and artists, including someone like Brontez Purnell who also includes lots of explicit autobiographical material in his otherwise fictional work, but I realize I’m probably in the minority in this regard. So for now, I guess, it’s the poetry of the tormented Tortorella.
Donston
Queerty (and most “gay media”) is what it is. Expecting high art or intellectually or socially challenging write-ups is expecting too much.
And yes, social media has led to a sea of individuals trying to perfectly sculpt personas and constantly looking towards the general public to give them affirmation. However, the biggest problem with Nico (and there are a few) is that all this stuff seems to be less about pride or educating people and more about trying to prove something and desperately trying to maintain a connection to “queer culture”.
Beyond the poems being pretty bad they also feed into the stereotype of most bi-identifying guys or at least guys who persistently indulge bi behavior as being individuals who are hyper obsessed with body parts or who date a certain type of person primarily due to their body parts. Being genuinely into a person romantically and sexually, having passion and satisfaction towards someone is very different than simly being into a dick or vagina or a butt or boobs, etc. The fact that his first dip into “professional” writing involves reducing individuals down to their genitals is kinda disturbing and juvinille. And unlike Janelle Monae’s “Pynk” there’s no glint of humor or wit.
Donston
Finally, Nico’s whole connection to his queerness and to “queer culture” (and most of his general perspective) seems to run entirely through Hollywood and the porn industry. No doubt that has had a poor influence. Never mind there likely being other “issues” from his past. So, it’s not really surprising how much he seems to be driven by the demands of ego and sociology, how generally vapid and self-obsessed he is, and how he seems to look at people as mostly symbols in society and body parts. He seems to have the psychological make-up of a typical sex worker. And unfortunately, in too much of “queer culture” that make-up is looked up to, especially if it’s back by a pretty face.

I wonder who his sugar daddy is…For only being on one show that I have never heard of, he seems to do a lot of nothing
Donston
Sometimes I just don’t get this generation (and me and Nico are the same age). He’s made it clear that he’s not interested in ever being with a man, doesn’t like being around guys, is not trans and doesn’t want to have a legit relationship with anyone but a cis woman. He’s expecting people to give him praise and admiration for constantly reminding everyone that he likes dick sometimes.
I don’t understand why people can’t just speak their truth straightforwardly and honestly and then live their lives without shame or fear. This obsession with constantly repping whatever labels, obsession with fitting into whatever sociological bubble, this desire to always feel a part of some “movement” and, in particular, this constantly looking for affirmation and adoration from everyone- it just makes the whole “queer community” look corny and desperate, especially when it’s persistently coming from a cis male who only has relationships with cis women.

Nico, let’s dock, I’ll share my foreskin with you.
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
Yikes. Some unpositive and invalidating opinions here. Nanny will not be pleased
Donston
I actually like her… for the most part. And she actually agree that Nico is at least somewhat problematic when it comes to the “bi guy” and non-binary movements.
Cylest Brooks
Hi Divkid. <3 <3 Nice to see you, too.
MonkeyMan
This is neither poetry nor art. This is just a gay man trying to deflect attention from his innate homosexuality while also desperately trying to stay relevant in gay media(Hollywood).
Why is it always the most “free” and “fluid” people who talk the most about it and want to put labels on everything?
Just do you, Nico, and focus on landing some bigger acting gigs instead of all this hot air.

CanadianGuy62
He should just write one called, “Attention Seeker,” and be done with it.
jpcolter
He’s hot and I like looking at him. I’m waiting for the full frontal and sex tape.

This wasn’t poetry. It was vapid drivel!!!

This shit sucks.

I am still trying to figure out what “ancient covenant” an Italian has to “fulfill” with circumcision. Maybe his name only ‘looks’ Italian?
amigay
Who is this dude and why should I care?
ElPillo
Queerty, did you run out of other crappy stories to tell? His is scraping bottom? Just all around bad in every aspect, from you to subject and his “writing”. Yuck
mike gerger
I mean, honestly circumcision can cause a lot of grief. There are big groups on reddit and other places that help people deal with the trauma they’re experiencing because of It. I think it’s ridiculous that people brush it off like it’s something dumb to be upset about.
