Peter Tatchell, the outspoken British activist, has never been invited to an official pride celebration at Downing Street. He accused former PM Gordon Brown of personally having his name removed, and newly installed PM David Cameron evidently hasn’t chosen to add Tatchell’s name to the guest list. Because Tatchell is such a critic! Then again, it’s not like Barack Obama would invite Kip Williams and Robin McGehee over for tea given their hecklemania.

Shameful. Peter Tatchell is a true brave her for bravely confronting homophobia in the face. That we would all be so courageous.

He IS a drama queen though, or at least that’s the impression he gives off, and politicians really don’t like people of any political spectrum who like to rock the boat.

I think it’s probably the whole ‘attempted citizen’s arrest on a visiting head of state’ thing that gets him ticked off the official guest list.
Tatchell’s an inspiration though. He’s done a huge amount for gay rights and for public acceptability, and he’s made enormous personal sacrifices for it. (It’s just a shame that he’s put his backing behind some very unsavoury organisations in the past.)
