“The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has ruled Shaw Cable has not been marketing its gay-and-lesbian television service nearly as well as do other cable systems. The broadcast regulators says, as a result of being subjected to ‘undue disadvantage,’ OUTtv was not getting nearly the audience on Shaw that it was getting elsewhere… No sanctions were announced; Shaw has 30 days to respond to the ruling with proposed fixes.” [Canadian Press]

I don’t get it. Who cares?

This is why I love Canada. They don’t put up with this kind of crap. Americans would demand that Shaw be given “cable company of the year” award for discriminating like this. Since California did the horrible thing it did, I have been in a state of constant gratitude for not having to live in the hell hole that is the United States. I am eligible for Canadian citizenship in June and I am so happy!

I used to work for the Shaw company – Starchoice Satellite – and it was very prevelent that they were discriminating against OUTv and the gay adult channel. I was told to never try and sell the channel, never include it in someone’s package and to be very explicit about it being an “alternative lifestyle channel” when someone asked what it was. Shaw still to this day refuses to carry the gay adult channel(s) available which is weird since they have 3 straight adult channels. The company with morals is very doublefaced. I could really care less about the quality of the channels offered, but when consumers don’t even have that choice because Shaw decides to take a moral stand…that is laughable.

I personally have Shaw Cable and I sorta know what they’re talking about here. It’s hell to try and add it to a package I gotta tell ya :s
