Rather than realizing nobody likes him and give up on his re-election campaign, ousted New York State Sen. Hiram Monserrate is trying one final move to hedge a race: Really come out against homosexual marriage.
Even though almost all his former supporters are now backing Assemblyman Jose Peralta, girlfriend abuser Monserrate isn’t finished. He’s won the backing of religious leaders including the Rev. Andy Torres, who are proud of Monserrate’s stance against gay marriage. And he’s taking their endorsement and running with it. Yesterday, “Monserrate announced he’s being supported by a bunch of clergy who are praising him for his support on one particular issue: same-sex marriage. Specifically, his opposition to it. The clergy members announced their support of Monserrate in response to a a pro same-sex marriage P.A.C. that is trying to oust Monserrate. ‘We find their tactics to be offensive and disrespectful,’ said the Rev. Andy Torres, in a statement sent out by Monserrate’s campaign. ‘Their overall goal supporting Gay Marriage is contrary to our moral principles. We unequivocally support Monserrate in the special election as a legislator who will defend our position.'”
Congratulations on this proud moment, senator. But somebody else has your ticket.
Lukas P.
Talk about desperate! Talk about pathetic. He’s NOW suddenly got “moral principles after physically abusing his female partner?

LOVE IT!!!
All those “good” Christians supporting Monster-rat showing that they, too, are monsters. No limits on “guilt by association” in public relations.

Mike in Asheville, nee “in Brooklyn: “Monster-rat”: PRICELESS

Thanks, Terrwill. Prick (your’s?) Warren and Maggot (mine) Gallagher work, but this one I truly believe hits the mark on many levels — as a woman beater/slasher, he is a monster; as a politico traitor issue flip-flopper including flopping on marriage-equality, he is a rat.

This is why attacking the little “monster” was ill-advised. Instead of resorting to anger, we should have simply supported his opponent. Now he is martyring, and those Christians just love that.
A week ago he didn’t have a chance. Now, he does.

Mike: I can claim credit for many of the appropriate monikers we bestow on the scumbags whos life mission is to cast hate on the Gay community. However Prick Warrren goes to Schultkitz. And as you know, I am a frequent adopter of the most appropriate Maggot Gallagher. ……..
That being said Monster-rat has balls the size of freaking watermelons. He was removed from office by a overwhelming majority of his peers. A procedure I believe that hasn’t been used since the Civil War. He then appealed to the courts and again was told to get lost. Now he is running in the special election being held to replace HIM because he was removed from office. Talk about not knowing when to bow out……
And Lukas, you are being waaaaaay too kind with your description of this scumbags actions. Use the googles to view the video of his actions. He literally dragged his girlfriend thru the lobby by her hair caveman style. And now these scumbag ministers are giving him their support simply because he supports the hate campaign against the Gays. Unfortunatley we are exposed to many very bad persons. Monster-rat is truly one of the most reprehensive, vile, selfish, disgusting persons to ever disgrace the human race………

Monster-rat and his Cabal(le).
With apologies to the diva.

Isn’t it interesting that those religeous leaders supporting him are in effect coming out in support of domestic violence.
ewe
Why not have a video spot of battered beat up women blaming the church for supporting domestic violence saying the church is pushing them as state representatives. I think that would get them to shut up.

@No.5 Andrew W
I know from your posts here on Queerty that, like me, you are looking for new ideas and strategies to “jump start” a renewed gay civil rights effort. You, me and many others chastise Gay, Inc. for failing to evolve from the old days and practices for promoting our cause. We, rightly, critique Gay, Inc. for becoming part of the political paralysis process that seems to use us when politicos need our support during campaigns and then its the cold shoulder, at best, once in office. Clinton did it to us; now Obama is too.
That being said, this is a perfect opportunity for trying out Fight Back New York’s strategy. Certainly it is very possible that FBNY will fail; but we won’t know until after the polls close on March 16th. Being a special election allows focus; and this time, the bad guy is not the incumbent and carries with him a very tarnished reputation. When FBNY attempts to pursue other anti marriage-equality senators, the situation will most definitively more difficult: many more seats to challenge, most will be challenges against incumbents, and none, as of now, have the kind of personal conduct problems to overcome as Monster-rat.
Win or lose, FBNY will learn much about the process and go a long way towards their goal of defeating our political enemies.
Andrew, did you post 3 or 4 weeks ago about HonestAmbition? If so, I have some thoughts. Cheers.

Mike In Asheville: I agree with you that we desperately need to figure out HOW and WHEN we can WIN our equality. It is mostly a question of re-focusing our attention and being willing to hold every tactic and strategy accountable.
I’m not certain about FBNY, nobody can be, but I am concerned that it is mostly about retaliation, based on anger. Anger is very real and should inspire us, but for us to lower ourselves to that level means we cast ourselves in the same light as the enemy. In addition, research that I’ve commissioned has consistently suggested that our perceived “complaining” actually hurts us. I complain,as much as the next guy – but, I don’t think we need to do it as an “action.” I don’t believe it changes anyones mind or anyones perceptions about us – in fact, it could hurt us.
You can email me at [email protected] I have spent a lot of money researching all aspects of our movement and public opinion. I have also a $100 million reward for the ideas/strategies that can lead to our full equality. I’m serious – serious about winning, not continuing the status quo.

_____________-
But that is exactly the line that HRC takes. (Don’t rock the boat, don’t complain, don’t upset people)
AndrewW
@Cam: I think the line HRC takes is simply about access, while they “score” politicians based on how “gay-friendly” they are – which is useless.
Please explain what benefits we, as a community, gain by attacking the little monster, instead of providing additional support for the endorsed candidate. Making an example of him has become more important than supporting a better alternative. THAT makes us look just like the enemy.
You will notice this campaign has also enabled him to play Martyr with his conservative supporters. If we simply ignored him, that may not have been possible.
