Obama’s New Queer Appointee Amanda Simpson Brings Some ‘T’ to the Administration

amanda simpson

Defense industry veteran Amanda Simpson, who sits on the board of the National Center for Transgender Equality, was just appointed by President Obama to join the Department of Commerce as a senior technical adviser. While working at Raytheon Missile Systems in Arizona, she transitioned from male-to-female over a six-year period, and successfully lobbied to add gender identity to Raytheon’s Equal Employment Opportunity Policy. In 2005, she ran, unsuccessfully, for a seat in the Arizona House of Representatives. Oh, and she’s a test pilot!

Nice gesture Barry…but I’ve got a better idea…how about you actually make good on even ONE of those campaign promises?

@YCKTR: At last count he’s made good on 79 of them. Sorry, but all of the promises he made weren’t just to to gay community. He has made promises to the rest of the country, too. If you’d like to talk about promises made to the LGBT community I offer you the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which was signed into law this year.

This will earn President Obama a whole new batch of grief. Good for him.

And the very best of wishes to her.

Appointing a few members of the lgbt community in no way makes up for ANY of his broken promises. What a disappointment he is, worse than Jimmy Carter or Bush.

Oh, will you people be calm? Just because he hasn’t yet lived up to his God-like hype in no way makes him worse than Bush. Or did you expect him to wave a magic wand and make all your problems disappear?

      Classy, real classy.

And best wishes to Miss Simpson. We can always do with more people on the inside. And I like her look too. Pretty, in a 1980s’ sort of way…

Best to Simpson. But yes, Obama is worse than Bush. He is worse because he makes it PC to call yourself a progressive while not believing in equal rights for those fagots. When we had Bush, we had the liberals on our side.

All of his promises might not have been to the LGBT community, but he sure as hell courted our vote and our cash, didn’t he? You remember that right? Back when there were 8 lgbt specific promises. Funny thing is…those promises have been edited slightly since he was elected – but don’t take my word for it…go check out the civil rights section of whitehouse.gov for yourself.

The hate crimes bill? Ummm…yeah…actually what he signed was a defense funding bill with hate crimes attached to it. And perhaps you missed the brief released in july that defended DOMA. Google it.

Sorry Chet, but Barry’s been silent on almost every LGBT specific issue. Don’t get me wrong…I hope he shifts gears and I don’t think it’s too late to do so…I’m just being real.

      @11 Fitz:

Are you fucking kidding me. The breeder “liberals” were never on our side. They just claimed to be. They talked the talk but failed to walk the walk.

I just knew this would upset the Log Cabin Repubs on here that keeps pushing that somehow Obama is worst than Bush on LGBT issues, laughable.

All you children who are complaining about Obama… this is just the start he WILL keep his promises, you need to be patient. He is in the real world and has to do it ONE at a TIME. Just be patient and don’t lose hope.

FiFi, we’re not losing hope. We’re just not wasting it. In order for Obama to do anything, he’ll have to grow a pair, and that just doesn’t seem to be in the cards. I think he got all he wanted when he was elected. He’s not going to rock any boats by actually doing something.

The text “transitioned from male-to-female over a six-year period” does not look right. That should be “over six years ago”, not period.

      Jan 6, 2010 at 2:58 am · @ReplyReply to this comment ·
    • Mike

Joe, I believe that means it took six years for him to transition to her…not that it happened six years ago, so the text would be correct.

When I came across the title of your article I came here to blast you. Glad I read it first. Ms. Simpson is more than qualified for the job. You couldn’t say that about many (any?) of Dubya’s appointees.

And I applaud her decision to trans – althought the fact that she’s gorgeous doesn’t hurt.

Attmay, some of us breeders do support your rights. I’m not thrilled with Obama so far but I’m still hoping he comes through on scrapping don’t-ask/don’t-tell & comes around to supporting same sex marriage.

some of these comments really exemplify the hate the gay community has always had for the transsexual community. you know I feel the biggest HATE group IS the GAY community…. Stealth T
