Defense industry veteran Amanda Simpson, who sits on the board of the National Center for Transgender Equality, was just appointed by President Obama to join the Department of Commerce as a senior technical adviser. While working at Raytheon Missile Systems in Arizona, she transitioned from male-to-female over a six-year period, and successfully lobbied to add gender identity to Raytheon’s Equal Employment Opportunity Policy. In 2005, she ran, unsuccessfully, for a seat in the Arizona House of Representatives. Oh, and she’s a test pilot!

All of his promises might not have been to the LGBT community, but he sure as hell courted our vote and our cash, didn’t he? You remember that right? Back when there were 8 lgbt specific promises. Funny thing is…those promises have been edited slightly since he was elected – but don’t take my word for it…go check out the civil rights section of whitehouse.gov for yourself.
The hate crimes bill? Ummm…yeah…actually what he signed was a defense funding bill with hate crimes attached to it. And perhaps you missed the brief released in july that defended DOMA. Google it.

When I came across the title of your article I came here to blast you. Glad I read it first. Ms. Simpson is more than qualified for the job. You couldn’t say that about many (any?) of Dubya’s appointees.
And I applaud her decision to trans – althought the fact that she’s gorgeous doesn’t hurt.
