It’s so much easier to call out President Obama on his flip-flopping when you can just tell your producer to roll tape. Like Jon Stewart just did with Barack breaking his promise on Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, something he promised to repeal during his presidential campaign and now is mostly, “Eh, what’s that?”
In case you need another example of the president’s new policies on hypocrisy, hear this: Obama won’t prosecute officials suspected of torturing detainees, he won’t release photos of those incidents (though they’ll get “leaked” anyhow), but the one thing he will do is keep gay Arabic linguists out of the military so they could actually tell us WTF these suspected terrorists are saying? (Cue to about 3:15)

and how much of the already limited military budget is wasted training, investigating, and discharging gay service members?
maybe they should start an all-gay regiment, and see how they perform. call it the Tuskeegay Airmen. worked for the Spartans. 😉

why is it that i continue to feel that the repeal of DADT is more of a 2nd term decision to make?
Alec
James,
Because you believe that important legislative and exeuctive actions should be pushed away into a hypothetical second term?
Democrats: 60 senate seats (once they seat Franken)
Obama: Lots of political good will among the American people.
American people: Want to overturn DADT.
This is an ideal time for a repeal of DADT, ENDA and a federal partnership law of some sort. Time to implement it. We might not have this opportunity in 2010, to say nothing of a hypothetical Obama administration in 2013.

@Alec: Precisely. There’s no reason to wait any longer.

You all should check out the clip of Jon Stewart and john Oliver talking to Dan Choi (“Dan Choi is Gay”. John Oliver (being sarcastic, of course) points out just how ridiculous DADT is even more.
I totally think Obama should start putting forth his promises to repeal DADT, like he promised during his campaign. I think the fact that he has hardly spoken of it is shameful, to say the least.
On the other hand, I’m also a patient and didn’t ever expect all of the big changes to happen within his first 6 months in office. We are losing a lot of good men and women in the military, but, despite what blogs and pundits say, it may not be as easy as snapping your fingers to get DADT overturned successfully. In short, I’m trying to give Obama the benefit of the doubt that he may be smarter than me, pundits or blogs when it comes to policies.

don’t get me wrong, i didn’t say it SHOULD be a 2nd term decision… i’m bothered by it as well… i just think that in the political arena – with the way politics are – the logical placement seems to fall on the 2nd term for such a monumental change……..
but i don’t agree with that since (1) i’m not in politics and (2) NEEDED gays are still needed in military service.
i was told by someone in the Navy (ex-Navy) that most of the “gay issue” of DADT comes from the Army… and only the Army, while the other branches of the armed forces (i.e. the Navy) doesn’t hold to the same homophobia – as my best friend was both in the Navy and openly gay. so i’m wondering how statistically this is playing out – with the Army getting all the press and all.
John
makes me ill…i love the Jon Stewart team for telling the story so well though.

I LOVE YOU JON STEWART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

finally someone who doesnt have this untouchable obama thingy…all those gays who support obama through this remind me of a certain group of people who vote the same people over and over ,they never question and they criticize anyone who points out the reality to em…they lack the basic necessities (water etc) ,they are sooo blind and thats what the government likes, the never questioning bunch …
