HE BETTA WERK

One Direction’s Liam Payne Becomes Fashionably Gay ’80s Workout Icon

Could the official coming out of a One Direction member finally be upon us? A boy can dream…

The hugely popular International boy band has ruffled the feathers of 14-year-old fangirls around the globe this week by dressing Liam Payne up as a “Leeroy,” an ambiguously gay choreographer in their latest video for “Best Song Ever.” It’s no less gay than pulling down each other’s pants and grabbing each other’s asses on stage, but some teenagers seem to think it is.

“Ooh, I love your blouse, it goes great with your eyes,” he says, donning a pair of faded jorts, a pink headband, and some fierce leg warmers. Too bad he wasn’t alive in the ’80s — he could have made some serious cash working out behind Jane Fonda.

The release of the video will coincide with the release of the band’s first docu-concert film, “1D: This Is Us,” next week. Rumor has it that Payne’s bandmate Zayn Malik will be dressed in drag for the video, an offense that is somehow less problematic for Directioners than their beloved Liam pretending to be gay.

But if a 19-year-old millionaire playing dress up is enough to push your buttons, save this battle for Justin Bieber.
