Accidental Gay Parents

My partner and I had been together for a year and a half when we got the call that his sister's two kids were going to be taken away from her and placed in foster care.
I have a foster sister, and I knew what could happen to them if they went into the system. So we took them.
A year ago today, we were granted permanent custody of Hailey, who is now two, and Riley, four. We went from being free-wheeling 20-somethings to changing diapers and buying legos within days.
It is a change that has brought us together as a couple, has transformed our lives, and has hammered home the lesson that if you see some good you can do in the world...

you must do it.
