Kylie Minogue: Aphrodite Les Folies – Live In London

($32.98 Blu-Ray/3D DVD set, $21.68 DVD/CD set, Astralwerks)

Miss Minogue’s latest live spectacle is as grand and gay as it gets – Vogueing! Dancing Roman gladiators! Flying angel hotties! – and features over two-dozen songs, including a cover of Eurythmics’ “There Must Be an Angel.” 3D concert films are such a genius idea – you actually get right into the action with no mobile phones all up in your face to boot. Of course, the 2D version looks, and sounds, pretty amazing as well.

Adele Live at The Royal Albert Hall

($31.98 Blu-Ray, 19.98 DVD, Columbia)

Those bummed about Adele’s cancellation of her 2011 tour dates due to vocal chord issues can savor a night with the diva via this 90-minute concert taped in late September at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Features seventeen songs, including a cover of Bonnie Raitt’s hearstring-ripping “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” plus behind-the-scenes footage and a CD of the whole concert. Get well, Adele!

Chillerama

($27.97 DVD, $29.97 Blu-Ray, Image Entertainment)

Old school drive-in B-movies get a queer send-up – sort of like Grindhouse – in this campy anthology from a quartet of directors. Wadzilla sees a killer sperm on the loose. Sean Paul Lockhart co-stars in I Was a Teenage Werebear. And need we say anything about The Diary of Anne Frankenstein? You get the popcorn and Chillerama will bring the cheese!

Heart Breaks Open

($29.99 DVD, Dual Power)

In this earnest gay indie drama, a Seattle gay activist/poet, Jesus, contracts HIV while cheating on his FTM boyfriend, Johnny. When all hope seems lost, enter his neighbor, a member of drag queen nun group, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. This is emotionally tough stuff, but rewarding.

Becoming Chaz

($19.99 DVD, Virgil Films)

Chaz Bono’s transition from female to male is intimately charted in this Emmy-nominated documentary directed by LGBT faves (and RuPaul’s Drag Race producers) Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato. Extras include a post-documentary roundtable with Rosie O’Donnell and, because we would riot if it wasn’t part of the deal, a Cher interview.
