Out On DVD

Out Now: Mangus!, Michael Feinstein, Into The Lion’s Den, The Simpsons And More!

There’s something for every queer this week, from a John Watersesque trailer-park comedy (with an appearance by John Waters!) and a Sinatra tribute concert by the ever-classy Michael Feinstein to some plain ol’ gay twink sexiness in Hacking (above). And we can’t forget a full season of The Simpsons and Helen Mirren hunting Nazis in The Debt.

Get out that holiday cash stash, girl!

Mangus!
($24.95 DVD, Wolfe Video)

It’s been seven long years since John Waters directed a film, but Ash Christian’s Mangus! should tide us over a little while longer with its tale of a self-centered teenager determined to star in a low-rent “Jesus Christ Superstar” knock-off at his high school until he lands in a wheelchair. Heather Matarazzo lets her freak flag fly as Mangus’ lesbian sister and Waters himself cameos as—who else—Jesus! Glory glory hallelujah!

Michael Feinstein: The Sinatra Legacy
($24.99 Blu-Ray, $19.99 DVD, Image Entertainment)

Ivory-tickling crooner Feinstein—who’s collaborated over the past few years with the likes of drag icon Dame Edna and he-can-do-no-wrong heartthrob Cheyenne Jackson—digs into his trunk of influences with this tribute to Frank Sinatra and ilk. The concert features eleven classic tracks, including “Fly Me to the Moon” and “Brazil,” plus the bonus “Sway.” Classy!

Into the Lion’s Den
($24.99 DVD, Breaking Glass Pictures)

Jesse Archer (Violet Tendencies) and Ronnie Kroell (Eating Out: Drama Camp) headline this Hostel-style road-trip film about three West Hollywood homos who make a rural pitstop they regret on the way to New York. No, not at Marcus Bachmann’s “pray the gay away” clinic.

Buffering
($24.99 DVD, TLA Releasing)

Two cash-strapped, maxed-out British twinks turn to the world of home-grown Internet porn in this sexy, out-there second feature by Shank directors Darren Flaxstone and Christian Martin. Forget those Starbucks bracelets and Obama’s proposals —these characters’ job-stimulus package could start a trend we’d love to see!

The Simpsons: The Complete 14th Season
($59.99 Blu-Ray, $49.99 DVD, 20th Century Fox)

Boasting the record-breaking series’ 300th episode and more guest stars than you can shake an episode of 30 Rock at—well, their voices, that is— the DVD and Blu-Ray of Season 14 features yet more extras, deleted scenes, and one of our fave queer Simpsons episodes, “Three Gays of the Condo.”

ALSO OUT ON DVD:

The Help (Dreamworks)

Cowboys & Aliens (Universal)
