We’ve posted before about New York City and Fire Island event mastermind Daniel Nardicio because he’s in the news with his parties, summer icon series, calendars and the like.
You know Daniel: He got Ronnie Kroell and Levi Johnston to get nekkid for Playgirl and founded (the sadly defunct) DList.com. So it seemed high time that we chatted with him for this week’s Swish Edition.
“People rise to the occasion if you throw something really fun,” he told us, describing the crowds at his numerous events, from naked-comedy night Dirty Laundry to the Studio Filthy Whore dance party. “They don’t get a lot of stimulation from most of the places they go to. Put ‘naked’ in front of anything, and they’ll come.”
Asked if he embraces the term “sleazy”—a label he’s frequently assigned—Nardicio says yes, “but it’s not like I’m constantly finger-banging go-go boys.”
Although, it should be noted, he is engaged to a Playgirl model.
Nardicio can clean up his act when the need arises: He’s booked Liza Minnelli, Alan Cumming, Sandra Bernhard and Margaret Cho for a concert series on Fire Island this summer. (We’re not sure which of them will be staying in the “Butt Hut” pool house behind Nardicio’s summer share.)
Hear all of Daniel’s tales on this week’s show, starting at the 35:27 mark.

Scott Wallis is the co-host of the Queerty/GayCities-sponsored Swish Edition comedy and interview show. He’s not here right now. He’s out looking for go-go boys to finger bang.

No Class
Nothing but trash. Why can’t we ever have some articles on gays with class?
Chris
Even as nightclub promoters go, this guy is sleazy, why is queerty promoting this guy now?
Nick
Daniel is a great guy, and if you actually met him, you’d realise he’s not sleazy just GOOD at his job.
Adam Sank
Yeah, Daniel’s maybe the nicest, most honest person in New York. And if you bitter losers had better lives, you wouldn’t waste your time slamming someone you know nothing about.
Hank
So his groundbraking promotion secret is… putting “naked” in front of everything.
…
And it works.
…
Says so much about our community, doesn’t it?

@Adam Sank: slamming someone we know nothing about???? What we know about Daniel is “exactly” what Daniel wants us to know about him. He has a carefully crafted public persona. It was created by him. He even states in this article that he embraces the term “sleazy”. Do you recall the way he acted on “The A-List NY”? He was a complete sleaze and acted like a creepy old letch. Again, he puts the persona out into public that he wants to. Don’t attack us for taking his public persona for what it’s worth and using it to define him.
Adam Sank
@timncguy: And what exactly does “sleazy” mean to you? If it means being celebratory about sex and sexuality, then that’s what Daniel is. And so is Madonna. And Robert Mapplethorpe. And most of the world’s greatest writers, artists and performers. And when the lights go down on you, I suspect you’re no saint, either.
The fake prudery and self-righteousness of most of the commenters on this site would be hilarious if it weren’t so sad.
Bottom line: I know Daniel very well. And on both a personal and professional level, I find him to be overwhelmingly kind, good-natured, honest, generous and hilariously funny. And people in our community would do well to show more of those qualities, starting with you.

I will pay 25 bucks for a pair of Daniels used underwear.

I am very much on Daniel’s and Adam’s side on this. You bitter cunts have no idea what you’re talking about and no sense of fun.
John Raymond Barker
I met him, and he couldn’t have been lovelier.
