North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory seems to be well aware that his reelection may be threatened by the rampant backlash over the state’s anti-trans law.
The Raleigh News & Observer reports that McCrory made a 15-minute appearance on “The Big Show with John Boy and Billy,” during which he was introduced as “the most beat-up man in America.”
McCrory licked his wounds throughout the segment, revealing that there were several events he’d been asked not to attend over the brouhaha.
“And now, sadly, in our nation if you have disagreement and you’re on the wrong side of that disagreement, according to the thought police, you’re dispensed of. You’re exiled,” McCrory said.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“I’ve even had some people call me: ‘Please don’t, governor, don’t show up to this event because I have people who disagree with you, and we don’t want it.”
“That’s not America,” he said. “Society is changing quickly and anybody who gets in the way is in trouble. And I might be in trouble. I might be looking for a side job over here.”

Ugh…who cares ??? Stupid N.C. and its bathrooms.
leobaga
My god. This guy Mccrory is really clueless.
Brian
McCrory should stick to his guns on the trans issue. Women in public restrooms don’t want men walking in.
On the homosexual discrimination issue, he’s wrong, however.
Chris
He asked for this reaction by signing a mean-spirited bill that targeted a (numerically) very-small group of people. To then plead that he’s somehow being victimized by people who “disagree” with his position adds because it reveals him as the hypocrite that he is.
Governor, you earned this backlash. Now stew in it and watch your political career end.
Louis
I really wish morons like this would shutup already about being PC or the thought police.
Its called possessing human empathy and compassion any decent human being possesses those qualities .
That explains people like Pat McCrory they lack both consistently.
As others eloquently stated he created this debacle and he is getting exactly what he deserves so are his supporters of this despicable and primitive legislation.
Louis
@Brian: What an utterly ignorant statement and this proves what I said about his supporters.
I cant believe anyone from this community would even think about supporting this discriminatory law its appalling.
Stop trying to make it seem as if transgenders are dressed up or in costumes its their identity they are not drag queens and they are not taking on a male or female persona.
Its their IDENTITY its the skin they live in its the bodies they live in and the bodies they are meant to live in.
They have every right to establish the bathroom they identify as its not them that are the problem its those who have these ridiculous paranoias and fears that are the problem.
You can sit here and speak of our rights as gay men and gay women yet immediately dismiss their rights and liberties simply because you clearly have a prejudice or issue with transgenders yourself.
Thats absolutely ridiculous .
DCguy
Oh look, the old bigot comment of “gee, I just “dissagree” with you, and you’re attacking me!”
Bigots LOVE to use the word “dissagree” so they don’t have to state the fact that they tried to attack all people in a certain group by passing laws against them.
Brian
@Louis: Please don’t confuse the issue of transgenderism with the issue of homosexuality. They are like chalk and cheese.
As for feelings, I think it’s time that transgenders put their feelings aside and started thinking of the greater good. Public restrooms are sex-segregated for a good reason.
DCguy
@Brian:
Please detail out the reasons and how transgenders using the bathroom interferes with those reasons.
GayEGO
@Brian: These are not men Brian, these are people who are now women. Of course women don’t want Republican legislator men in their restroom which there have been more Republican legislators arrested for sexual misconduct in restrooms than trans people.
GayEGO
Hmmmmm, is McCrory starting to realize he may have oops-ed it by signing HB2 into law? McCrory is on the wrong side of history as our civilization is learning and evolving and he should join us.
SteveDenver
All this for a law they can’t even figure out how to enforce!
GOOD RIDDANCE!

So if he favored owning slaves again we should welcome him to our homes and events otherwise we are punishing him for disagreeing? He doesn’t realize that some issues don’t have two viable sides. He needs to put on his big boy pants and realize that actions have consequences. So does being on the wrong side of discrimination in any form. Lots of the hardline Republicans and other buggy whip makers are gonna get passed by. Suddenly you can’t find anyone who voted for W and his wars. So how did he get elected. Same for Trump after he pulls the GOO down with him. Just like Captain Ahab. They would destroy the vessel and crew rather than abandon a wrong headed quest it give an inch.

@Atldeuce: “Just like Captain Ahab. They would destroy the vessel and crew rather than abandon a wrong headed quest it give an inch.” Like the gays still espousing to fill up Europe with Muslims.
Atldeuce
@joeyty: that doesn’t even make sense. Jeez

This is the classic case of the majority oppressing a minority that they thought would “go quietly ” and they assumed that everyone was as dim as them and would support this blatant hate speech. The pre-Stonewall police thought the same thing. But the world is changing and these sad old souls missed it. They want to go back to the “good old gays” of Strom Thurmond and his ilk. Even Strom verbally abused blacks while secretly fathering a child with a black woman. It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad. If you saw a picture of thise attending the signing ceremony in the Gov’s office you would realize how laughable these people are. Their time has passed. The angry white men of this country think Trump will lead them out of the darkness but in fact he will expose them to the bright light of scrutiny. Now they are the real minority. What they ought to fear is abuse and payback at the hands of those they abused in the past.
blackhook
In McCrory’s case, ugly goes far more than skin deep.
joeyty
@Atldeuce: It makes sense completely. Your Captain Ahab comparison is very good, but my take on it is even more apt. Gays would rather see Europe (and every gay including themselves) destroyed rather than admitting they were wrong in opening the borders.
joeyty
@Atldeuce: “What they ought to fear is abuse and payback at the hands of those they abused in the past.” What about homophobic African-Americans ? Can we make them fear too ?
joeyty
@Atldeuce: What about white women ? Can we make them fear too ? How about maass rapes like in Rotherham, UK ?
joeyty
@Atldeuce: And where do the new successful Hindu Trump supporters in the U.S. fall into this ?
Dwight
Everything he says on this is completely ridiculous. He makes is role sound pretty passive, as if all he did was sign the damn law.
His actual role was much more active. The legislature was not in session and he actually called them back in to pass the legislation. He tries to pit gays and trans against each other and claims the law is not antigay yet it invalidated local protections passed by some localities in North Carolina for gays, bisexual, lesbians, AND transgendered. It was much more than just the bathrooms that he’s claiming now.
This is a guy who, at the time he signed the legislation, was so smugly sure he was right. That legislation was passed and signed into law in record time and now he’s afraid to stand by his decisions and he’s acting like a victim with the pen forced into his hand.
He didn’t learn from Indiana and now it’s backfired on him big time. Governor, pull up your big boy pants acknowledge your role in all of this and stop acting like a passive victim.
trell
Did I miss something?
Part of his own statement reads as if to say “If you make a decision that the majority of voters disagree with, and sign it in as law, you are deemed unpopular, and could lose your job.”. The other part basically said “I am way too blinkered and old fashioned to keep up with today’s society”
The guy clearly has no clue about his job role. Isn’t the Governor’s role (or any political role for that matter) about considering the will of the public? when the polls suggest that the majority of the American public are mature enough not to be threatened by the idea of a transgender person using their toilet, any decent governor, regardless of their religious, or personal considerations, should be backing the ‘vox populi’, & considering the wider picture, not trying to impress a few hicks and the rich far-right.
He’s worried about what the backlash is going to do to his career. Boo fucking hoo..Has he given any thought to the rest of the state, who have lost jobs & business opportunities, increased community tensions and become tarred with the same brush? All over a big non-issue about who gets to pee where?
Society is dynamic and attitudes constantly change. The job of politicians is to represent the will of the public. _ Those two statements are politics 101, and Pat Mcrory has demonstrated that he is too ill-equipped for the role.
Louis
@Brian: Segregation was wrong in the 60s and its equally wrong.
That is not a rational nor logical argument.
I cant get over how insensitive you are to these individuals.
If you care about YOUR rights then you should equally support THEIR rights they are a part of our family and our community as well.
Their rights and lives are as equally relevant and important and significant as ours are they are not less then and to treat them as if they and their rights and their liberties and their dignity as human beings is is appalling.
He BGB
NC is probably like GA where the cool liberal people live in the 1 ot 2 big cities (Atlanta) and the rest of the state is redneck and ignorant and fear anybody they think is different. Sounds like Charlotte and Chapel Hill where university educated people live are informed but the rest of NC is not. He could still get reelected. These states always elect republican governors with big city liberal mayors.
joeyty
@He BGB: No, a lot of it is ghetto rather than redneck.
joeyty
@He BGB: And the university people are the WORST !
joeyty
@Louis: Please knock off your holier-than-thou fantasies. If you were THAT moral you wouldn’t be on an evil site like Queerty, which makes up stories and practically said Don Imus (a gay ally) deserved to have his cancer because he’d once said “nappy headed hos.”
jimmypalmieri
goodbye you moronic little bigot of a tarheel governor.

@Louis: Don’t feed the troll (Brian). He’ll never see the “T” in LGBT.
