Pearl made quite the flazéda on season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, but you may not recognize her in San Francisco this weekend.
And for good reason.
Matthew James Lent, the performer behind Pearl, has been building up a new persona, Roxanne, and she’s set to make her live debut on June 15 at Fake and Gay in San Francisco.
Here’s some Roxanne to get revved up (or down or whatever direction you find yourself after hitting play) with, and if you happen to be in SF, head to The Stud to see her crawl to life before your very eyes:

I don’t get it, are we supposed to find this “pretty”? If that is the intention, I do not agree, no, it is not pretty. It is in the vein of freaks like Amanda Lepore and Rodrigo Alvarez the Ken Doll. It is NOT pretty. Sorry.

You do realize this is DRAG right? It’s a new character. A new persona. Not all DRAG needs to be *pretty*. For you to say that Amanda Lepore and Rodrigo are *freaks* is not only disrespectful and classless but you are not informed what true DRAG is about.. Please go back to back to school and learn something about the history of Drag. That’s all

For the record, I have been going to drag shows since the 70’s, so I really do know what drag is all about, but I also know what cosmetic surgery abuse is all about as well, which pertains to Lepore and Rodriguez, and is obviously what Pearl is referencing in this “performance” in which she transforms herself from someone who looks as if they have completely destroyed their appearance via plastic surgery, implants and injections, forcing this extreme application of makeup in order to make herself look “pretty”, but ultimately fails due to the grotesqueness of the damage that has been done to her face by the cosmetic procedures. There, that just about sums up when I am seeing after watching this video once again. And, once again for the record, I attended a drag show at one of my local bars Saturday night.

For me, it walks the line between misogyny and transphobia.
