It was a banner year for bad bedroom behavior by politicians. Whether they were caught sending x-rated videos to their mistresses, hooking up with guys other than their wives in their offices, sharing bisexual porn on their Twitter pages, or being caught offering minors cash for “sexual stuff,” our nation’s elected officials never ceased to amaze us with their lurid acts of perversion.
Let’s take a peek back at this year’s wackiest and wildest political sex scandals…
Joe Barton
Naughty photos, sexts, and a masturbation video featuring antigay GOP Texas Congressman Joe Barton found their way onto Twitter. The x-rated content was leaked by a woman who had an affair with the 68-year-old lawmaker while he was still married to his second wife. In response, Barton issued a statement saying that he was a victim of revenge porn, then he ordered Capital Police to investigate the matter.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Wes Goodman
The married “family values” Republican from Ohio found himself in a rather precarious situation when he was allegedly caught having sex with a man in his office. Shortly after that, creepy screenshots of sexually explicit conversations he had with other men began making their rounds online, followed by reports that he once fondled a teen boy at a 2015 fundraiser for the antigay Council for National Policy. After those stories broke, Goodman resigned from office and promptly went into hiding, where he remains still.
The God-fearing, gay-hating senator for Texas slipped up on 9/11 when he “accidentally” liked a bisexual adult film on Twitter featuring a “cheating mom” doing nasty things with her stepdaughter and a man. It took 40 minutes for Cruz to unlike the video and go into damage control. He blamed the whole snafu on a staffer before telling CNN’s Dana Bash, “Consenting adults should be able to do whatever they want in their bedrooms.”
Sam Adams
The openly gay former mayor of Portland, Oregon was accused of sexually harassing his former executive assistant. Cevero Gonzalez worked for Adams from 2008 to 2012. In November, he came forward to claim that during that time, Adams frequently made obscene gestures, exposed his genitalia, and spoke in graphic detail about his sexual exploits. Adams, who has previously been exposed for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old intern, denied the allegations.
Tim Murphy
The antigay, anti-choice congressman from Pennsylvania was busted for urging his mistress to abort their lovechild. Leaked text messages between the 65-year-old lawmaker and his 32-year-old mistress showed the lovers arguing over her suspected pregnancy. After the leak, Murphy, who has a 0% rating from the HRC and opposes any and all LGBTQ rights, admitted to cheating on his wife and resigned from office. Meanwhile, the mistress ended up not being pregnant. Whomp, whomp.
Daryl Metcalfe
OK, this one isn’t so much a sex scandal as it is a sex freakout… We’ll never forget the public meltdown this homophobic GOP lawmaker from Pennsylvania had when his heterosexual colleague, Rep. Matt Bradford, casually touched his arm. “Representative Bradford, look, I’m a heterosexual. I have a wife. I love my wife. I don’t like men, as you might,” Metcalfe screamed. “Don’t! Stop touching me all the time! It’s like, keep your hands to yourself! Like, if you want to touch somebody, you have people on your side of the aisle that might like it! I don’t!”
Jeffrey Mann
The two-term DeKalb County, Georgia sheriff, who was first elected to his post in 2014, was busted in a police sting operation. The 54-year-old law officer was charged with indecency and obstruction of an officer after being caught masturbating in a public park and then fleeing the scene. He pled guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 80 hours of community service and ordered to pay a $2,000 fine.
Ralph Shortey
The former GOP state Senator from Oklahoma resigned in disgrace in March after being caught redhanded with a 17-year-old boy in a Super 8 motel room. It was later revealed that the married father of four had offered the kid cash for “sexual stuff.” Police also uncovered text messages between Shortey and the teen, who he called “baby boy,” referencing bareback sex. Then in December, police body cam footage of Shortey being busted was released. Shortey pleaded guilty to child sex trafficking and now faces between 10 years to life in prison.

Where is the sexual predator George Takei’s story in your remembrances???
Rex Huskey
…..guess his politics don’t qualify him ????
jpcolter
Are you unable to read? George Takei is not a politician and moreover, no one believes the one accuser that was looking for his 15 minutes.
Rex Huskey
Yo! jpcolter:
not sure how you define politician but here’s mine and I think it fits: “a person who acts in a manipulative and devious way, typically to gain advancement within an organization.”
Re Mr. Scott Brunton accusations…. I believe him as do many others. There are more details forthcoming…. Perhaps you and “others” don’t want to believe.
Juanjo
Rex dear, no one cares how you define things. We live the actual real world with all the mature, responsible adults and did not ride the special bus to school, as you did up until last year. BTY great mix of tu quoque, straw man, and red herring. Nice to see a troll working with great effort to add in as many logical fallacies as he can into a series of posts on a single subject.

“We live the actual real world with all the mature, responsible adults and did not ride the special bus to school, as you did up until last year.” Weak…very weak! Just saying…..

Reading about them when they first happened was enough. Do we really need a reprise?
GayEGO
How about the Massachusetts Senate President Stan Rosenberg’s Husband Bryon Hefner who sexually molested four men in the Senate? I was shocked when the news reported the incident about Stan Rosenberg using the word “husband”! Times are a changing!
Jack Meoff
What a sad bunch of middle aged men these guys are.
Kangol
Wes Goodman is 33 and Ralph Shortey is 35, meaning neither of them is “middle aged.”
Also, to @RexHuskey, in addition to George Takei not being a politician, Sam Adams and Jeffrey Mann both ran as Democrats and not Republicans like the others.
Giandorko86
What a sad comment
Rex Huskey
how does their age or status in life-logivity matter…. Should they know better? Please advise.
Rex Huskey

“Middle aged” can denote a time/age when people die.
A whole lot of people die between 66 & 70, so middle age is quite right in this context.

Fail
Kangol
Let’s try again. Goodman is 33. Shortey is 35. They are not “middle aged.” Ted Cruz is almost there at 47. Not that being middle-aged matters, but you can die at 20 or 30 too, as the “opioid”/heroin crisis is proving, or as the HIV/AIDS pandemic showed back in the 1980s and early 1990s. That doesn’t make you middle-aged.
gaym50ish
They left off former Texas state judge and “family values” lawmaker Paul Pressler, accused of molesting a 14-year-old boy. It was reported on right here on Queerty.
