Mike Pence is set to become the most antigay incoming Vice President in modern history, and according to WJLA, his new D.C. neighbors aren’t so keen on having a known homophobe on their block.

Ilse Heintzen lives just down the block from the house where Pence is currently staying as he waits to move into the Vice President’s mansion on the grounds of the Naval Observatory. After learning Pence was moving to the neighborhood, she and some of her neighbors decided to take a stand against his hateful views… by hanging colorful rainbow flags outside their houses.
“A respectful message showing, in my case, my disagreement with some of his thinking,” she tells WJLA.

In case you need a brief recap: Not only did Pence pass that awful law in Indiana allowing businesses to legally discriminate against LGBTQ people on religious grounds, but he also supports gay conversion therapy and, of course, is very opposed to gay marriage.
“I have no idea what [the Vice-President Elect] will think about,” Heintzen says, “but I hope he will change his mind.”
According to the news station, there are about a dozen rainbow flags flying around the block, and more are said to be coming.
“This is one way that I can show my disagreement,” said Heintzen.

Oh yes, the ol’ Flag Conversion Therapy.
Heywood Jablowme
@Alistair Wiseman: Are you in favor of gay conversion therapy? You seem to consider this a big joke.

Just 40 years ago, the idea of this elderly, middle-class, obviously straight white couple protesting like this was absolutely inconceivable. Still a long way to go, but we’ve come a long way, baby. If this attitude would filter down to the young male population, life would be really good.

Hopefully he meant that flag conversion will do NO good! I seriously doubt Mr. Pence will ever change his real view. Maybe just bite his tongue, he would look appropriate with blood dripping down his chin.

Nice of the neighbors to stand up for everyone, and it will show Pence’s three children that America is more accepting than their father. I wonder how does Pence feel knowing that his own party has engaged in so much voter suppression and gerrymandering to stay in power – even though both actions create an anti-representative government?

The best part is it is older people doing it. 🙂

@Alistair Wiseman: “Oh yes, the ol’ Flag Conversion Therapy.”
We know you like to lick clean the holes of thiose who hate you, we know you love being on your knees to those who think you less than fully human. But you need to understand most of us here do not. We are not filled with self-hatred as you are and will not defend those who hope to force us back into the closet.
There is nothing funny about you attempting to minimize opposition to those who hate gay people. But it is certainly odd and casts doubts on your mental health, if in fact you are not just a straight fool trolling here (which is what I have always assumed about you, few could truly be such an idiot).

Fight fight fight! Don’t ever let this hateful rhetoric against LGBTQ folk ever become acceptable.

@Heywood Jablowme: ” Are you in favor of gay conversion therapy? You seem to consider this a big joke.”
He considers everything outside his little world view a big joke. And he may be in favor of conversion therapy, he seems more and more to be a hetero troll. In any case he has certainly shown a marked inability to tell the difference between reality and imagination, so may think the actual comments from Pence or his documented actions regarding gay people are just “some liberal journalist’s opinion”.

Bigots express bigotry, it’s what they do. Call them on it every time.

Now that’s some maturity there, yes it is.

Well done, bigotry will not be tolerated !!!

How is that “trolling” Mike Pence? It’s not like they put the LGBT pride flag in his yard.
jhon_siders
Pence was a bad choice The way we look at it here in Indiana well at least we got rid of him here !!
BriBri
They could have ironed them first, how tacky.
alanballs
Yes. Dunce was a very bad choice for VP. Watching karma unfold for him will be amusing

Beautiful to see finally something positive out of this fiasco.

Don’t blame Pence. Blame the colossal moron who chose him and thought that he could actually be vice president.
BitterOldQueen
This is a good first step, if only symbolic. I know everyone’s all in a dither about Trump, but I think the veep is far more worrisome. Trump wears his crazy proudly on his sleeve, but Pence hides his hatred and virulent christo-imamism under his blandly smooth midwestern vanilla disguise.
GayEGO
Pence changed his tune on the Indiana anti-LGBT discrimination bill that he signed when businesses threatened to boycott Indiana, causing Indiana to lose a lot of money. Because of those actions and because Trump said Marriage Equality is the law, it will be interesting to see if Congress wants to lose a lot of money by trying to overturn our equality or discriminate against us.

BitterOldQueen, I love your description of Pence. Trump is so not fit for the presidency. His victory tour is pathetic. He should wait to see how he does before he gloats. I suspect a man so foul will not be blessed. Dead reckoning will be his folly, and ours subsequently. My prayers go out to our service men and women (that is if Pence doesn’t ban women from the military.)
BriBri, you made me laugh with, “They could have ironed them first, how tacky.”
Crowebobby, So true. I wish you commented more.
dwes09, Thanks for swatting the housefly. Try got to get any guts on the French door panes.
