Pete Wentz Embraces Gay Jibes

Pete Wentz may have knocked up Ashlee Simpson, but he still gets shit for being a homo. The Fall Out Singer tells Out that he regularly gets called out on the street – and he’s all right with that. In fact, he’s basically embraced the abuse:

“When I’m going down the street I get called a fag all the time,” he says. Instead of bothering to deny it, he shifts deftly to mocking the bullies’ Neanderthal mentality: “We have iPhones, and I’m still getting called the same names as when I was 13.”

“Our culture bombards us with this idea that you’re not that, and if you are that, there’s something wrong with you, and then we’re going to call you that, and then it’s an insult,” he says. “There is a sense of self-empowerment or recapturing who you are by people calling you ‘fag,’ and being like, ‘Yeah, I am a fag.’ Even though you’re not.”

The 29-year old also compares anti-gay attitudes to America’s Jim Crow laws, saying, “People treat sexuality the same way that [during] Jim Crow [white] people treated African-Americans… It’s totally dehumanized.”

He’s oversimplifying Jim Crow, but his heart’s in the right place.

“He’s oversimplifying Jim Crow”- BS, bigotry is bigotry. Darth Paul is another excuse-maker for blacks holding on to a special victimhood status that does not recognize the same injustices being committed to another group.

I appreciates Pete’s sentiment. In regards to the comment above, are you serious? Black people want to hold on to a special victim hood status. Look who is calling the kettle black (pun intended). As long as you continue with these moronic racist rants, you will never get those people of color who stand behind us to stand up with us. You fail to recognize that there are black gay people as well. I guess we get the benefit of dual special victim hood. How grand is that?

      @ #4,

You can be black and gay. The difference is that you can hide your sexuality whereas you can’t hide your blackness.

So in that context Jim Crow is different and I think that is what the person was getting at.

Your hood is showing, Churchill-y, and clearly the difference between letter of the law-sponsored bigotry and someone calling ANYONE a “fag” is lost on you. FAG.

I guess that means Gay is a shadow, but Black is a highlight! Neat!

      @# 9,
And the moron is revealed. So Einstein, Gay people currently in 48(49 perhaps again after November) states in this union don’t face “letter of the law-sponsored bigotry”?
Guess I’ve been a regular Rip Van Winkle while that happened!

I’m kinda lost on the whole black and gay thing b/c i’m both an di hid my sexuality for 13 years and it was hard but easy. And hiding your blackness is hard b/c it shows on your skin and i get all the common slander from both sides b/c of the stereotypes i get from both sides and it comes mostly from ppl i thought of as close to me. but yea….he’s gay, and it’s totally cool. more so cuz he is hot and i love his whole punk rock/ almost emo attitude and i love his glasses. lol.
