Philadelphia Man Murdered, Dumped In Alley Following Alleged Grindr Hookup

Dino-Dizdarevic-murderThe body of a gay Philadelphia man who traveled outside the city to allegedly have sex with a man he met on Grindr was found in an alley last weekend, brutally beaten beyond recognition.

G Philly reports that on Wednesday, April 30, 25-year-old Dino Dizdarevic informed his boyfriend, Nick McBee, that he would be traveling 18 miles south to Chester, PA to meet a man he’d met on Grindr. According to the report, the two had an open relationship.

McBee says he first began to worry about Dizdarevic’s safety later that night, when he failed to return home as promised. “He was a responsible person,” McBee said. “He always called to let me know where he was.”

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan confirmed this week that Dizdarevic was found dead in an alley on Thursday, May 1, the day after he left home for a presumably quick hookup. According to Whelan, Dizdarevic suffered from “multiple blunt force trauma injuries to the face” and had been beaten so severely, he was only identified by his clothing.

McBee tells Philly.com that the couple moved to Philadelphia last August when Dizdarevic found work asa  chemical engineer at the Stepan Company, and had “dreams of marrying, buying a house in Philly…and someday adopting kids.” They had been dating since December 2012.

No arrests have been made in connection with the crime, but DA Whelan tells G Philly it may be investigated as a hate crime. “We don’t know if he was targeted because [he was gay],” he says, “but we’re looking at any avenue necessary.”

In the meantime, a crowdsourcing campaign has been launched to help McBee and Dizdarevic’s family offset funeral costs. Anyone with information that could lead to an arrest is encouraged to call Chester Detective Joseph McFate at 610-447-8428, or Delaware County Detective William Gordon at 610-891-4700.
