Gender-blending valkyrie Tilda Swinton has fascinated us since we first saw her play both genders in Orlando. Now we can (hopefully) experience her magnificence in person as the ginger actress has put herself on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
As part of a performance piece called The Maybe, Swinton will come into MoMA at various times over the next month and take a nap inside a glass box, Sleeping Beauty-style.
Her first unannounced slumber was on Saturday. According to Gothamist, The Maybe was first performed in London in 1995 at the Serpentine Gallery and again at the Museo Barracco in Rome.
Says MoMA:
An integral part of The Maybe’s incarnation at MoMA in 2013 is that there is no published schedule for its appearance, no artist’s statement released, no museum statement beyond this brief context, no public profile or image issued. Those who find it chance upon it for themselves, live and in real—shared—time: now we see it, now we don’t.
Considering we’d buy tickets to watch Swinton dry her nails, you know we’re gonna be there.

Christ. Anything is considered “art” these days. Bizarre.

I’m not a person who gets terribly excited by many modern art installations but in this case the “Swinton” can do no wrong..she is art and wouldn’t be taking this on lightly or if she felt it didn’t have value or worth..she is a highly intelligent woman, an accomplished actress and one which many others could learn from.
As for the Glass Box..well I am sure she knows what she’s doing.
