Out comedian and activist Wanda Sykes was the guest of honor at the Ruth Ellis Center‘s second annual Voices benefit in Detroit on September 20. Held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD), the gala celebrates the resilience of the more than 4,000 LGBT homeless and at-risk youth the center serves each year. The outspoken Skyes surprised the audience with an announcement that she had personally donated $15,000 to the center, matching a $15,000 grant from PNC Bank earlier in the evening.
