PHOTOS: Right in the tail end of New York Fashion Week, the new Hell’s Kitchen gay bar from Ben Maisani (co-owner of Eastern Bloc and the Bedlam Bar & Lounge), Atlas Social Club, opened up earlier this week with a bang and a fantastic group of celebs in attendance.
Anderson Cooper fulfilled his boyfriend duties and attended in support, bro’ing out with Andy Cohen in their casual tees. They were joined in the crowd of the dimly lit bar (filled with lounges, plush sofas and wallpaper made from vintage fitness magazines) by Alan Cumming, Ellen Barkin, Kelly Ripa and hubby Mark Consuelos, Eve, and everyone’s favorite EGOTer, Whoopi Goldberg, who chatted about the bar the next day on The View saying she had a marvelous time.
See what went down at the opening party below.

Atlas Social Club is located on 9th Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets, and opens to the public on September 20th.

Great. Just what we need in NYC. Another bar full of drug fueled, snooty, “ain’t I pretty” gays.
Jayson
It’s nice to see out gays mingling with closeted gays.

@Jayson:
Which ones are in the closet?

I remember anderson cooper’s bf being hot and now he looks? What??? Not aging well- anderson looks the same.
..and I thought they ‘broke” up.

The sports/fitness wallpaper is cool.

Anderson Cooper seems to have made a fine choice for a partner, hot, smart, creative and successful and except for that one incident last year, they seem to be drama-free.

I am getting sick of Anderson Cooper. Could we gays have a different celebrity “role model?” Journalistically-speaking (he’s a purported journalist, no?), I remember how Cooper was ecstatic when he was reporting on the Muslim Brotherhood take over in Egypt. Politically, he’s just not of my persuasion.

@1EqualityUSA: Same thought! I’m getting serious decorating ideas (except say, images of Bettie Page, Dorothy Dandridge and Julie Newmar instead of bodybuilders and boxers)! I want that red chair!

Here are some ideas for your wall:

Lady L, I’m ashamed to say I had to “google images” the ladies you had listed. Betty Page scares me a little. Where do I turn in my card?

Honestly, is that the only T shirt Andy C owns? Or does he only own red coke shirts? Or, is he owned by Coke? Not that he isn’t cute in red…….
It looks like it was a fun time and can’t wait to check it out the next time we’re in NYC- love the eastern bloc. Since we spend a lotta time in Hell’s Kitchen, hopping the bars, another option will be great.
LadyL
@1EqualityUSA: You’re forgiven Equality, but barely. (Get it? See what I kind of did there?) Bettie Page, Dandridge and Newmar are all somewhat before my time also but I just love the raw sensuality those women exuded.
Bettie scared you? Was it in a good way?
LadyL
@1EqualityUSA: Nope. Great song, and those ladies are all inspirational and empowering, but the lipstick lesbian in me leans instinctively toward sex-and-glamour images. (And Julie Newmar in her prime was pretty Amazonian–look for “Li’l Abner” clips of her as Stupefyin’ Jones or her scenes with James Mason and Susan Hayward in “The Marriage-Go-Round”)

So much bad botox on aging queens….

I was under the impression that this was an event for the beautiful people so what on earth is Alan Cummings doing there..equally who is that gopping awful looking black guy with the dreads..Seriously was that the best they could come up with..
Polaro
What a bunch of old hens. LOL. I imagine you all drinking a martini and smoking as you write your funny nastygrams about successful and or hot gay guys. And everyone of us would gladly have attended if invited…don’t deny it.

#12, Lady L, I don’t know. maybe my exploitometer was tweeked.

@Katbox: It’s well know that they partake in hard drugs, which doesn’t bode well for the body in the long run. Not sure which kind of drugs exactly, but I hope it’s not T.

@twoguysbrooklyn: drug-fueled? how insultingly stereotypical.@sfmd:
